I met the founder & executive director of Global Orphan Prevention, Katie Hilborn through the Global Orphan Prevention's sustainable development advisor Eric Moffet, who volunteered to fly to Nepal to assist on the ground during the 2015 mega earthquake that severely affected 14 districts of Nepal and killed nearly 9,000 people and injured nearly 22,000. I was very much impressed with Katie and her team members’ dedication and enthusiasm during the rescue and relief process to the earthquake-affected people targeting to go to the most remote and rural villages. I have noticed how much love and kindness they had in their heart, head, and hands to help needy rural and remote people. Since then I have been closing working with Katie whenever she visits Nepal almost every year to help rural girls and women of Nuwakot district that is considered the most affected district in Nepal for human trafficking since historically period. Thus, Ghyangphedi and Sikharbesi of villages of Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality of Nuwakot have been still the most vulnerable to girls trafficking following the earthquakes. In order to stop permanently such an inhuman practice from the adjoining district to the capital of the country, Kathmandu discussing with local village leaders of Ghyangphedi in 2017 we came to understand that due to lack of education, ignorance, illiteracy, and poverty girls of this village are unable to continue their education after they dropped out from grade 4 and 5, thus they have been the target of village traffickers and their network circle. We were told by the village social workers if we really want to help them to stop girls trafficking the first and foremost priority should be given to continue girls’ education by constructing girls hostel since young girls can’t walk 2-4 hours in mountain terrain on a daily to go to the secondary school of their own village. Though this was the most challenging solution as proposed by the villagers to address girls trafficking as it was not easy to construct the hostel due to lack of funds despite having heart, head, and hands to help them of Katie and her team. However, I found Katie very much committed to helping the villagers told me that I’ll make the dream come true of the villagers raising funds through her network circle in the USA. Together with Katie, we (myself and villagers) have envisioned socio-economically empowered girls and women, and a village free from girls trafficking in Ghyangphedi. To make this dream come true generous helping hands, heart, and heads with humanity and prosperity of one and all are paramount, without their support our dream will remain just as a dream. Amazingly, in 2019 Katie told me that she was able to raise some fund through a fundraising Gala to construct the hostel building then I coordinated with the village leader, Mr. Karmajit Tamang asking him to transfer his plot of land to the local women’s organisation named, Srijanshil Red Panda Women’s organisation for the construction which he did and since March this year the construction is underway. Sadly, due to COVID-19 pandemic, I came to know through Katie that people who had committed to support during Gala fundraising have informed her that they can’t fulfill their commitment. Luckily her charity received an interest-free loan so the center could be complete on time, and they are moving forward. I am hopeful that our dream of helping those innocent rural girls and women including their families will definitely come true since there are still many people in the corner of this world who are looking forward to extending their hearts, head, and hands to help needy girls to come out of their despair. The continued efforts to prevent child sex trafficking by Compass Rose International have paid off; as of this year there were no new instances of child trafficking in the area where Compass Rose International operates. The work that this organization does is extremely vital to the area, there is a wait list of children to the center that is over double what it can currently house.
The work and transparency of Compass Rose International make this organization stand out.
I am the father of two daughters who (along with my wife and 4 grandsons) are the love of my life. Shocked by the history and magnitude of child sex and orphanage trafficking in Nepal and saddened by the increasing depression and suicide levels of Denver area youth, I joined the board of directors of Compass Rose International (then known as Global Orphan Prevention) in January 2022 and have served as its Treasurer for the past three years and will now be its Board Chair for the coming year. Why? Because I am passionate about our mission of “INpowering” and uplifting young women vulnerable to child trafficking and mental health challenges. By providing tools for resilience, confidence, safety, and independence, our programs have created a real, lasting impact for girls in Nepal and Colorado, helping them to rise above their challenges to chart a course toward bright, purposeful futures.
This year has been one of incredible growth and impact! We expanded the Nepal INpowerment Center to house 46 residents, planted 2,000 lemon trees, and INpowered a community of 3,000, while also hosting our first-ever Girls INpowerment Conference in Colorado. It’s been a year that all involved with this wonderful organization should be proud.

I've worn a number of hats for Compass Rose, including circus artist, emcee and musician. It's been an absolute honor to work with such an impactful organization. Founder Katie Hilborn's passion for empowering girls in the face of human trafficking is cause for applause. Witnessing the record-breaking success of the non-profit's most recent fundraising gala was both moving and inspiring. Hilborn is currently in the process of growing her public speaking career and I'm excited to see how far she can take it.
I have been deeply involved with the Girls INpowerment Project at Compass Rose International, first as a volunteer and now as the full-time Operations Manager. Since its launch in 2019, this initiative has made a remarkable impact on our community.
The project has significantly increased school attendance among girls, fostering a newfound appreciation for education. Through extensive awareness campaigns, we have seen a near elimination of trafficking in our area, demonstrating the power of grassroots advocacy.
Our programs have not only empowered girls but have also shifted community mindsets. Families now recognize the value of educating their daughters, leading to a culture where girls and boys are viewed as equals. Moreover, safety for girls has greatly improved, with resources and support systems readily available to them.
The project has inspired families to seek sustainable income opportunities, creating a hopeful future for everyone involved. Overall, the Girls INpowerment Project stands as a beacon of change, demonstrating the profound impact of empowering young girls and transforming entire communities.
I wholeheartedly recommend this initiative to anyone looking to support meaningful change in the lives of girls and their families.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Compass Rose International for almost two years now, and I couldn’t be more proud of the progress we’ve made. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to be part of a team that’s truly making a difference.
This year has been especially exciting! At the 2024 Northstar 2 Freedom Gala, we hit a major milestone by raising the highest amount in the organization’s history. These funds will be a tremendous help in continuing the work we do for the teen girls in the Denver community and in providing proper education to Nepali girls in Ghyangphedi, a small village in Nepal.
Our admin staff and Board of Directors are fantastic, and I feel lucky to work alongside such a supportive and dedicated team. And of course, to our Founder, Katie, whose kindness and passion for this cause are truly inspiring. Her dedication to the mission is something inspiring.
I look forward to continuing this journey and reaching even greater heights together!
Global Orphan Prevention has been doing remarkable work in Nepal especially in Gyangphedi, Dhupcheswore Rural Municipality for the girls and women. The work will contribute to empower the girls and women in the long run.
Global Orphan Prevention has been a pioneer in helping communities battle trafficking and is making a major impact worldwide. Their focus on educating at-risk women and families has transformed their lives and for generations to come. With their new venture here in Colorado, I am excited to see the big changes they will make in our own community. If your looking to get behind and support a strong, dedicated, and emotionally invested non-profit, this is the one!!!
Global Orphan Prevention is an amazing non-profit that makes a true impact on orphan prevention in Nepal. The founder Katie is passionate and committed to improving the lives of these girls. I am proud to have had the opportunity to help build their school and contribute to this worthy cause.
Wonderful non-profit that truly impacts orphan prevention in Nepal and makes such a difference for these girls. Proud to have helped build their school even in such a small way by donating.
I am blown away by these amazing people at Global Orphan Prevention who work so hard for this very important cause. Thank you for opening my eyes and my heart to this issue and giving us all a way to help these girls.
I was exposed to this amazing non profit by an invitation from a friend to the annual gala. I was completely astonished by the passion that Katie, the founder, has for this cause. It was eye opening and an organization that I plan to continually donate to.
I was honored to attend the 2021 North Star Freedom Gala and see the incredible work that Global Orphan Prevention does helping to teach and inspire young girls at risk for human trafficking in Nepal. The evidence of good work is clearly displayed through each of the girls at this great organization serves.
One of the primary reasons why I support Global Orphan Prevention is because they go beyond just educating people about the problem of human trafficking in Nepal and India. They really work to provide education and a safe and secure environment to help mitigate this horrific crime.
Global is an amazing organization, the humans that are involved are authentic and amazingly smart with their allocation of the money they raise. I was impressed with Dr Glover on the board that runs Pediatric Psychology for Childrens hospital and their development of the curriculum to help at risk girls across the world. Katie is really making an impact and I am honored to help them as much as I can!
This is a charity that is truly making a difference from education and empower of young woman which will reduce there exploitation .
Looking forward to the progress the organization going forward
This is an organization that is tackling some of the most important issues that threaten youth across the globe and they are doing it in an innovative way addressing core underlying issues of mental health to support youth from now into adulthood. Incredible work that is making an impact!
In a world where struggle, darkness and confusion run ramped; finding that one big, Bright Light can be the single difference of creating a new path. Global Orphan Prevention is that Light!
The light the will not go out. The light that leads to new courage, new opportunities, new forms of wellness. This is work that is hard, demanding, forceful, impactful and therefore - it changes lives.
The passion, endurance and mission of Global Orphan Prevention is strategic, driven, focused and creates results. I am honored to share my experiences and continued support with others.
Working with this wonderful organization has been an incredible experience! The cause is noble and the staff is hard working. I'm proud to be both a donator and a volunteer and hope to continue with them for a long time to come.
WOW! This organization has diverse, dedicated team and is making a huge difference in so many lives.
The Freedom de Cirque event was a powerful gathering considering the restrictions we have in place today on social events. The performers and venue were great!
I was fortunate enough able to attend the Passport to Freedom event and was moved by what Global Orphan Prevention has done, and continues to do. The programs that they are creating to empower girls/women is what is needed in the ever changing climate this world is experiencing. I had fun at the event, but more so I was happy to donate knowing that what I was donating to is a cause I can stand behind.
These folks do nothing but good work. Their philosophy is right, their actions are effective. I am proud to have worked with them in the small capacity that I have, and wish them all the success. The world needs this organization.
Meeting Katie Hilborn, the founder of Global Orphan Prevention opened my eyes to the problem of internationally sex trafficked children. Being the mother of two daughters this issue weighs heavily on my heart. The work that Global Orphan Prevention does both domestically and oversees is paving the way for a better future for many children. Attending the fundraising event, Passport to Freedom was entertaining and I was happy to give money to such a good cause.
This is such an incredible group of individuals with an obvious drive and passion to change the world. Even after just a short time volunteering with Global Orphan, it is clear that this organization is going places and is destined to make a huge difference across the globe. The dedication to empower women and endless efforts to end sex trafficking and preventing orphans is so inspiring. I am thrilled to recommend them!
I worked with Katie in 2015 to building medical centers in Nepal. This was after the two mega quakes and during the following thousands of large after shocks. We completed a full medical setup in one day in scorching heat. The danger level of these missions was high. At one point one of our trucks was sliding backwards on a solid rock surface after a rain. It was going off the edge of a massive drop off. Katie ran through the mud and fog trying her best to get to the truck before it slid off a 500 foot cliff. It was too far away for anyone to get there in time. The fact that her first reaction was to run into danger to try to pull the young driver out of the truck earned big respect from me. GOP is a determined org making a difference in the world. Keep up the good work GOP. Stay safe

It's amazing to see so many people coming together for a necessary cause like this. I am grateful to be a part of the wonderful work this organization does for the community and around the globe
Global Orphan Prevention is making huge strides across the globe, and is a non-profit to get involved with! I went from being an occasional volunteer to a board member once I realized the amazing things this non-profit is doing. Building an empowerment center/school/dormitory in Nepal and having summer empowerment camps in Colorado for foster kids is just the start! There are amazing people in this organization that are passionate about making a difference all around the world! The mission is so inspiring- keeping families together by focusing on education, empowerment, and economic development. I’d highly recommend checking out Global Orphan Prevention and see how you can get involved!

The mission and heart pouring out of Founder Katie Hilborn, her Board, and the volunteers at Global Orphan Prevention are amazing and inspiring. It's so refreshing to see people deeply care about helping others and making this world a better place. There are many ways to get involved with this non profit.. and not only are you supporting a phenomenal cause, you will meet some amazing people as well. Highly recommend getting involved!
This organization is taking the child sex trafficking industry head on in one of the most impacted cities by percentage in the world. Every person Involved is volunteer based and has moved mountains to make education, awareness, and economic development available in a remote village within the Himalayan mountains. They are even expanding operations to the United States as we see the need just as much at home in at risk youth and want to change the sex trade here as well as abroad. Nothing but love and respect for this amazing group!
This is an amazing organization doing phenomenal work. The name betrays it's reach and approach. They don't just prevent orphans and traficking, they empower and strengthen communities.
It is incredible to be a part of an organization so dedicated to their mission, and mobilizing so quickly to take action. Creating sustainable impact through economic empowerment and education, Global Orphan Prevention directly influences the trajectory and futures of vulnerable girls whose plight is often hidden from view. In tackling the orphan trade, the organization is confronting child sex trafficking head on - with intention, purpose and passion. Powered by volunteers, the organization has already made significant strides in addressing the systemic issues that are at the heart of the global orphan trade. I am excited for the launch of their Denver-based program to compliment efforts abroad!
This is such an amazing group of individuals with love and passion to stop sex trafficking and slow down the orphan issues in the world.
Very few things get me angry in this world but sex trafficking is one of them. This organization is doing huge things in this world, not just preventing it at the source but opening a chapter in Denver as well. Love them!
Global Orphan Prevention is a fantastic organization with a powerful mission! Wonderful to see their impact across the globe.
GlobalOP has a wonderful group of people working on a noble cause! Our reach is expanding rapidly and the 2019 Gala was a huge success.
Global Orphan Prevention may be small, but it is mighty. The founder, Katie Hilborn, is a genuine fighter for children all around the world. She not only has a vision, she’s out there in the field investigating dangerous situations, connecting with families, teaching at schools, building facilities, searching for lost children and have successfully brought several girls home. Not only is she a powerhouse on her own, the organization is running 100% on volunteers who believe in her vision. The people this organization brings together to fight for this purpose are amazing and with that, they do and will do amazing things.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." -Mahatma Gandhi. When I was first introduced to Global Orphan Prevention by a friend and heard more of their non profit efforts overseas, I knew it was something I wanted to get involved in and find ways to help support its mission. I met with its Founder & CEO, Katie Hilborn, and was impressed with her vision and leadership. She has created a strong board of local young professionals who are dedicated and passionate to GOP. She is someone who refuses to sit on the sidelines and instead is in the action, completely hands-on, traveling to Nepal to further GOP's efforts. The biggest reason I got involved was because I felt GOP wasn't a non-profit conglomerate, one where you don't know exactly know where the funds are going and you're not sure how involved executive leadership is in furthering its mission. I wanted to be a part of something bigger and that is exactly what I received by being involved with the organization and serving on its board.
Global Orphan Prevention mission not only talks the talk but walks the walk. Schoolhouses are built, children are protected and educated, and opportunities advanced for the area. Repeated visits to Nepal and surrounding areas ensure that change goes beyond the local Colorado connections to child trafficking and trade but also to economic development at a local Nepalese level. Katie is an inspirational leader whose vision to promote the region's difficulties and through Global Orphan Prevention works to bring about a vision to keep families together and elevate a region so often forgotten about in the United States.
It's a rare honor to serve a nonprofit that has a clear vision and executable plans. I just returned from a month-long Humanitarian Mission with Global Orphan Prevention.
Katie Hilborn has founded an organization that is fueled by her unwavering determination, compassion, and vision, finding solutions to the complex cause of issues. Her diplomacy and creative utilization of partnerships and direct leadership leading to irreversible systemic lasting impact and positive change.
The time we spent in Nepal divided between supporting the foundational pillars of Global Orphan Preventions solidified the clear mission that GlobalOP has defined.
WE STRIVE TO KEEP MOTHERS & CHILDREN TOGETHER.
From addressing child sex trafficking to the orphan home trade, we provide effective and sustainable solutions to keep children with families.
Through sustainable Economic Development - Educational Opportunity & Active Awareness Campaigns
Prevention is the best option for fighting human trafficking, yet for many, any intervention is far too late. I was significantly personally impacted immersed in the Nepali culture, through the days spent overlanding on nonexistent roads destroyed by landslides, forcing us to clear boulders by hand until the staircases of footpaths were our the only option left to reach the remote villages. So we endured these obstacles to gather the shreds of evidence left to find the ones that had forcibly ripped from their peaceful existence.
I encourage anyone to support Global Orphan Prevention's mission, by donating to this cause with dollars or time. Unlike other nonprofits, your resources directly impact the lives of the villages and children we support.

[ Here is a small excerpt from my field journal I wanted to share]
"Today, as we embark for another trip into the field the weight of the heaviness of documenting human trafficking, has become tremendous.
The newness of this country has been worn away; the surrounding chaos of the unspoken methods commonplace. The dust becomes a trusted traveling companion.
Staying steadfast while speaking face to face with devastated family members, tears streaming down like an afternoon monsoon within them, has created a burning resolve within me.
Questions bubbled up in my mind, furiously trying to connect unseen dots. What am I not seeing? What is not quite right? Where is the common thread? To catch a thief of human dignity you have to be immersed. To think, to feel and operate like that which you are hunting.
The entire time I was looking for a sign; it quite literally was hanging on the wall of the dirt-floored home we were staying. Flapping oh so gently when the wind would blow.
The common thread was a program promising a new life within the profession of being a tailor; its irony is still fresh in my mind.
Confusion has been swept away with glaring clues left behind of coordinated collusion. An underground network of exploitation has infiltrated an NGO in the area.
While on the move to a remote village armed with more coordinated intelligence than any one human has had before, the trap has been laid, the cheese is in place, and an extraction team prepared for a rescue of a girl from afar.
Once her photograph is shown, and her identity confirmed, the dominoes will begin to fall. If the weather holds and fortune smiles upon us, we will be able to place a single call. Cutting through the clouds like a well-welded blade tripping the trap and signling the team to move. "
It's rare that I find a charity that is committed to spear heading global sex trafficking and helping third world countries keep families together. So many parents are giving their kids to orphanages thinking it's giving them a better life only to have those kids become victims of sex traffickers. GOP is dedicated to the proposition that every human soul should be able to live a free and prosperous life. GOP is dedicated to education, safe housing and economic prosperity for the families and young people in these countries.
Amazing people locally leading a global impact! Love it!

I've worked with and for many dedicated non-profits trying to get out and make changes, but the enthusiasm and spirit this group of volunteers and members is incredible. The organization is completely committed to the goals of helping families in Nepal and stopping human trafficking in the Denver Area. If you are looking for an energetic group who works tirelessly to increase awareness and not only talks about doing great things around the world, but actually does them, this is your group.
I have had a wonderful time working with GlobalOP. Everyone involved with the organization is extremely passionate and mission-driven.
Great organization! These guys are focused on their mission and has a passionate founder who is looking to make an impact for the right reasons, prioritizing that mission and what it requires above all else. Keep up the great work!
Global Orphan Prevention works to keep children together with their mothers through various impacting ways that I genuinely believe in. It has been quite a pleasure working with such a wonderful group of board members, and I look forward to helping more orphans and preventing child-trafficking half way around the world!
Global Orphan Prevention has a dedicated founder, board of directors, and strong community support which is a testament to their organization. Because of their vital work, transparency of outcomes and funding, and commitment to effective and sustainable solutions. Connecting and partnering with existing NGOs overseas, allows for complimentary expanded knowledge, expertise and capabilities to fulfill their mission.
Katie, along with help from the rest of the Global Orphan Prevention team, truly affects real change in Nepal. Her local knowledge of the communities in Nepal is what really sets this non-profit apart. Knowing that the efforts I put forward towards Global OP will go directly to where it is needed most is a solid comfort.
This non-profit truly makes a difference in the world. They are transparent in their fundraising efforts and all proceeds go directly to keeping mothers and children together in Nepal. Global Orphan Prevention will continue to grow and thrive every year because of their strong leadership and dedicated team.
Global Orphan Prevention is very progressive in their efforts to find impactful ways to help. From fundraising to birthing kits they are changing the way to get involved locally with a international influence.
Phenomenal organization providing relief to mothers in need in remote areas of the world. Effecting change for those that truly need it most!
Amazing organization. The founder’s level of commitment and passion is inspiring. This is a small non-profit with a big future and an incredible vision. Thrilled to recommend them!
My experience with Global Orphan Prevention has been surreal to say the least. It was by chance that I connected with them and since day one have been impressed with the history of activity that these guys have had on the ground in Nepal already. I have always had a passion for giving back, just my time in general, and did not expect to be able to do that so easily with such a new group. It's really encouraging to see people putting their words into action without hesitation like Global Orphan Prevention is doing. I'm excited to see what the future brings with this group!
GlobalOP is a nonprofit that believes in spending time working directly with the individuals it seeks to support, which is necessary for the children of Nepal to receive maximum benefits. Not focusing on merely donations, but sending volunteers into the field sets this organization apart from others.
Global Orphan Prevention is one of the most dedicated and tenacious non-profits I've worked with. The authentic and compassionate leadership of the founder and director translates through to all operations of Global OP. Not only that, but this organization is truly committed to fulfilling it's vision of keeping mothers and children together.
Global Orphan Prevention provides sustainable methods to alleviate global poverty and gives communities the tools they need to grow. Knowing that 100% of the time and $ donated to the organization is going back into the communities within Nepal, truly shows what great work this grassroots organization is doing!
When I started following the progress of Global Orphan Prevention, I knew immediately that this was an organization worth helping. The foresight that Ms. Hilborn has shown in producing long term solutions has been remarkable. One of the aspects of this organization that I most respect is the consistent communication from Ms. Hilborn via email and social media. Everyone involved knows exactly where our efforts and donations are going, how the children of Nepal are being helped, and what future plans are in store.
I personally haven't worked with this organisation but anyone can see the work that they do so selflessly is creating a better place. Bringing light to situations and places that need it and doing it all with such passion, this is what we need more of.
From one persons compassion and drive to help others. To the network of people who have brought light to a part of the world and its horrible lack of education and social resources. Global orphan prevention has made great strides from humble beginings.
Dedicated, devoted and selfless leadership. Clear vision and tangible progress. What more do you want from an NGO?
As Executive Director for Helping Assist Nepal's Disabled, we partnered with GOP right after the April 25th 2015 7.8 earthquake in Nepal. The first thing that I noticed was the high quality of Katie's volunteers. Eric and Shelby were both top-notch. They both had a sincere interest in helping the earthquake victims of Nepal; specifically building birthing centers where the remote village health posts had been destroyed. This effort saved the lives of both babies and mothers. Eric regularly reported back to Katie and her board as to our progress in the field.
Because of GOP's efforts in Nepal soon after the earthquake, there will be a noticeably positive impact in Nepal for the mothers and babies in these remote regions!
Global Orphan Prevention, rather than using funds for a bandaid approach, is able the think outside the square to reach the root of problems and develop innovative projects to help avoid children from having to live in orphanages. Funds are reaching directly to where it is needed - the people of Nepal. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to visit the Dairy Farm which was developed and built by GOP. I was most impressed by this project which provides income generation for a low caste primary school, incorporating involvement of local community members. With a hands on approach and low overheads I can see GOP giving ongoing service to the people of Nepal, especially to those of low caste.
I must admit I have no experience working with this organization. However, I have spent a great deal of time under the tutelage of Ms. Katie Hilborn, one of the founder and my source of inspiration. Her works not only helped the world but also influenced my approach towasrd community service. I am glad that GOP is working hard to help the people of Nepal recover from the tragedy that has fallen upon them. I hope the best will come to one of the best person in the world.
I've done some consultation work with GOP and have always been impressed with the organization's ability to garner broad perspectives towards their aims, and thus put them together to achieve. This is truly a grass roots organization, working to create change through innovative means.
If you're looking for a worthwhile organization, you could not do better than Global Orphan Prevention. The work they do is beyond measurement! You can be sure that more than 90% of your money goes directly towards providing for the support of building schools and creating sustaining farms. There should be more non-profits like this. Help keep them going by donating.
I've been most impressed with the clarity of this GOP's sustainability plan. I feel confident when I make a donation that my funds are going exactly where they should be and will actually get a result long-term for orphanages & schools, not a temporary fix-up of something that will go by the wayside when money runs out. I've seen firsthand over the past 4 years how hard the founder of GOP has worked to make a dream become a reality. After a vacation/volunteering at an orphanage in Nepal, the founder saw a need for these children and families, came back to the US, raised money from friends to help. Went back, provided animals to help some families be sustainable and ending up building a school in Pokhara as well. Further educating herself, began this non-profit organization, went thru the government legalities to make it official, put together a website and again raised funds to return to Nepal to continue her goal of sustainability. She's made it her business to understand the people and respect their culture. This is an organization that will do great service.
I am greatly to help in anyway I can! I work hands on with the low-caste children in Nepal and support everything this organization is doing.
I volunteered with Global Orphan Prevention last year as a management consultant. I advised them on research and fact-finding areas for project development. Since that time, Katie and her NGO, Global Orphan Prevention has taken my advice and have produced solid research to further her endeavors. I am happy I could have helped her in this precious stage in their development.
I have frequently been involved with Global Orphan Prevention, donating money when I could. I can't donate a lot of money, but I know that $20 here-and-there really does make a difference in 3rd world countries. I'm confident in their ability to manage donations and ensuring money is spent wisely while taking into consideration fair trade practices. I will continue to support this charity in their future projects.
Global Orphan Prevention is already doing great things for families in Nepal through the building of a school near Pokhara for those of low caste. The sustainability model that GOP's founder, Katie, espouses is a great way to ensure the projects GOP helps to start are able to continue with the assistance of the local population. I am honored to be a part of GOP and look forward to supporting many more great projects to help those most in need!
I have worked with nonprofits and humanitarian efforts in developing countries in Africa, South America, and Asia for eight years and the strides Global Orphan Prevention is taking to close the rich-poor gap will revolutionize the way charities give. They are getting to the root of the issue by helping provide income generation instead of simply giving away money. They are fixing the problem before it occurs and I applaud them for these innovations.
Global Orphan Prevention (GOP) is an organization that I have become familiar with over the past 4 years. As an educator and activist for social justice I find GOP to both benefit those it works closely with as well as set a bar for others in the field. A hands on, grass roots approach that combines the needs of those it is working for while maintaining minimal overhead costs has allowed the greatest degree of funding to reach the communities. Along with this, GOP is not a single servicing organization but one that allows for fluid motion in how it assists a community. Understanding this, that all communities do not own the same needs illustrates the understanding of both social justice but perpetuates the cohesion that takes place when one provides a Hand-Up and not a Hand-Out.
