Nonprofit Overview

Mission: CHARIS (Greek for God's Grace) operates in complete obedience to God, giving Him His rightful place in determining the path and goals of His ministry that He has, by grace, allowed us to perform. Thus, CHARIS, primarily focuses on the unseen spiritual needs in Haiti, and secondarily on the seen physical needs, always remembering that our success is completely dependent on God's will and never ours.

Malcolm and Joy are passionate and dedicated to the work God has sent them to do in Haiti. I always appreciate hearing a word from Malcolm when he visits my home church. It's also great to see how many lives this ministry is touching not only in Haiti, but also those who have gone to volunteer for this organization.

Malcolm, Joy, and their kids are the most dedicated family on the planet. They are tireless, patient, genuine, and work to make lasting change in the lives of the people of Haiti. I have worked with them personally and have seen firsthand how they sacrifice their lives to bring the gospel.

I love Charis because I know every penny is going to the people of Haiti that need spiritual and humanitarian help the most!

Charis (aka the Henderson family) are truly committed to continuing the work of Jesus Christ and his ministry by providing for the physical needs (medical, dental, sustenance, etc.), educational needs and most importantly, introducing the unreached people of Haiti to the saving message of the Christian gospel. If you want your charitable giving to achieve the maximal effect - to do the most good for the most people - this is the organization you should consider donating to.

If you are moved by the material and spiritual poverty found in the island nation of Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, consider financially supporting Charis. The primary mission of Charis is to spread the Good News to those in rural Haiti who have never heard it, and turn hearts towards a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Charis missionaries also understand that education and adequate health care are pillars that predispose individuals to live a fulfilling life. Thus, Charis has started elementary schools that are free to the families (unlike other primary schools), provides health care and is developing initiatives that could impact the economics of the areas inhabitants.

Your financial donation goes a long way; funds are wisely utilized and people's lives are directly impacted for the better. Look hard at their website! You'll be inspired.

My recent experience with Charis was life changing. I was especially moved by the commitment, dedication and integrity demonstrated by Malcolm and Joy - the leaders and founders of this organization. I watched them selflessly and tirelessly move daily to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the many widows, orphans and poor in the nation of Haiti. Their commitment to truth and bringing the light of God's Word and His saving grace to many who have lost hope was rewarding to witness and an honor to be a part of. I look forward to a continued and ongoing involvement with this ministry.

I had the privilege of serving with Charis for their college summer internship during June and July. Joy and Malcolm are two people that have imprinted Jesus's battle cry to their hearts and minds. They serve with obedience and love in every single capacity of their ministry. They do the work of about a hundred missionaries with just a handful of people. To be considered a 'great non profit', although very honorable in its nature, would be a far understatement. This ministry, and the Henderson family are breathing life changing kingdom work to the landscape of Haiti. I am a proud friend and brother in Christ - much love and respect!

I travelled to Haiti with my wife in June 2015 to help provide medical care, distribute aid, and worship with the people of Haiti! We had a wonderful time and witnessed first hand the impact Charis is having in the lives of the people of Haiti for God's kingdom. They are truly Christ-centered and have a clear evangelism focus.

Charis is an organization that is on fire for the Lord and His work here on Earth! They are very in-tune with what God wants to do through them and they are led by the Spirit, not by their own will. As a volunteer helping with their newsletters, I feel like they update their support force very well with what they are doing in Haiti. It brings me much joy being apart of their background support group - it's like we're all in this together!

I interned with CHARIS this past summer and it was incredible and life-changing. The days in Haiti are long and hard, but the people of CHARIS are truly acting as God's vessels to share His love and grace with all the people of Haiti, especially those involved with Vodou.

The Charis leadership and adaptability was evident from even before the trip to Haiti, what with the multiple supportive and detailed pre-trip instructive emails and availability for questions. On the ground, a good variety of experiences were offered and you felt you were being competently and safely ushered through each environment. The feedback, responsiveness, and sense of togetherness was inclusive to all the personalities in our group. The Christian faith was expressed and embraced openly and warmly with many opportunities to live it out in practical ways to the Haitian people. I would recommend this nonprofit as a very reasonable means cost-wise, and as an emboldening, eye-opening, inspiring way to light a fire in your heart about sharing who Jesus is and how He offers eternal life.

As one who is involved in the movement away from good deeds that scratch the surface, to involvement that solves problems, I was glad to see Charis pushing in the right direction and that it's interested in not causing unnecessary interference with local culture.

2nd Review in less than a year...If you're looking for a Christian charity where the funds you provide will have the greatest and most immediate impact - "the biggest bang for your buck" -please consider Charis. I have witnessed first-hand the powerful work that is being done through this organization to change the lives of the poorest of the poor, the desperate and the destitute. Furthermore, the organization models how radical abandonment and obedience to the cause of Christ will prove the faithfulness of God.

My trip to Haiti in January 2015 was unbelievable. I thought I was mentally prepared and the so called phrase "The experience will change you" would not happen to me. But it did change me! It is one thing to see people suffering on TV from the comfort of our recliners, but to take a trip to Haiti and experience the suffering first hand is unexplainable. My heart broke. There is not enough words to express or explain the need of the people of Haiti (especially the children, the orphans). I will go back if God will allow me. I can not help everyone but I can help at least one person at a time. Thank you for allowing me to make this trip. God Bless this mission.

Charis is a story of what a passionate and compassionate couple can do when hearts are on fire to bring the story of Jesus to the most impoverished land on the planet. Ministering to "the least of these" by economic and social status, Joy and Malcolm Henderson and their children, demonstrate the true character of sacrificial love. As a pastor I find myself humbled by their obedience to the call of the gospel, and, at the same time, I find their witness an inspiration! Malcolm and Joy are the real deal and more importantly, the ministry of Charis is impacting the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of God's children in Haiti. I am blessed in the opportunity to offer support through prayers, resources, and friendship. Pr. Tom Grevlos

As a pastor I am familiar with many mission organizations and missionaries. I believe Charis is an exceptional organization because it focuses on the most important things - the salvation and discipleship of precious souls for whom Jesus died. Dr. Henderson and all the folks at Charis put the needs of the people first, so their money and efforts are not eaten up by a bloated organization, expensive buildings and projects. Their inroads into the long neglected Voodoo villages also shows great courage and faith in the power of the Word of God.

I am very happy to recommend Charis as a great non-profit!

I met Dr. Henderson and his wife Joy and family in June of 2014 and I can say that they are as genuine and sincere as you can get. They have been in our home on 4 separate occasions and they truly care about Haiti and the work they are doing there. I have hosted 4 meetings in my home and church and each time they have represented their ministry well and have won over the people attending to want to not only support them through prayer and finances, but to travel to Haiti and serve the people in that country.
As a matter of fact my 15 year old son and I are heading to Haiti with Charis 4 Haiti this week and 5-7 of my friends are planning on going to in March of 2015.

If you want to get behind a solid, non-profit that is actually doing things that will not only last for time, but for eternity, you need to get behind this ministry!

Having been to Haiti myself on a medical mission trip, I fully understand the incredible need there is all over the country for medical and spiritual help. CHARIS is a wonderful combination of both of those needs. The passion of Dr and Mrs Henderson for the people of Haiti is heartwarming and inspiring. They stretch every dollar and ounce of love that is offered up through their organization. And mostly they ask for prayers and support for their work and the people that they serve.

The Hendersons, who started this nonprofit organization have done so based purely on their faith and the obvious need of the people of Haiti to learn about God's love for them. They operate on a shoestring and visit our church to mainly ask for our prayers to aid their efforts. They fully recognize the challenges and dangers they face from groups opposed to their message, but risk their family nonetheless.

Charis exemplifies exactly what Christians should be doing more of, namely, acting out the word of Christ rather than simply talking about it. The organization has faithfully devoted itself to helping the people of Haiti on an individual basis. Through the steadfast prayer that Charis has organized for individuals in Haiti, the Lord's hand is doing amazing work there.

After learning about Charis and the work being done in Haiti I immediately requested to receive email updates. What Charis is doing far exceeds what other organizations are trying to do in the world's poorest country. For years the building of schools, orphanages, and hospitals has brought no change in the country's well being. Charis is producing change in the people's heart in the parts of the country that are the most unreached and the need is greatest

This organization is doing pioneer work in the southern part of Haiti, witnessing to vodou priests and their camps, starting house churches where people can "come as they are" and participate even though they do not have the so called "appropriate" right church clothes. Orphans are getting to attend school for the first time! We have partnerships with 2 of the schools in the mountains and pay the teacher's salaries - which allows the students to attend school for free! The ministry is run 100% by the Holy Spirits' leading and therefore looks vastly different from the norm. Our mission focuses on attending to Haiti's spiritual needs first, then the physical. Mission trips are different. Sponsorships are different. If you don't believe it......come and see!
