Center for Anti-Violence Education Overview
Programs: CAE offers the following programs: Children's Empowerment Project, an award winning after-school violence-prevention program for children of all genders (ages 6-12) in which children build self-esteem, discipline, and respect for others as they develop conflict-resolution, self-defense, and karate skills; Teen Initiative, an innovative youth-development violence-prevention program for teen women and transyouth(ages 14-19) which includes a five-week self-defense program, an ongoing self-defense and martial arts after school program called PACT (Power, Action, Change for Teens), community projects developed and implemented by the teens, and leadership training as Youth Instructors in the children's program or Peer Educators leading off-site workshops; Brooklyn Women's Martial Arts, one of the oldest and largest women's and transpeoples' martial arts schools in the country, which offers karate and t'ai chi, charges sliding scale fees, and provides free child care; 5-Week Self-Defense Program, a five-week course for women and transpeople which combines basic physical and verbal self-defense with discussions on awareness and prevention; Survivors Program, which offers one month of free training in karate or t'ai chi or the 5-week self-defense course free to women and transpeople who are survivors of domestic or sexual abuse/assault; and Community Violence-Prevention Workshops which take CAE's unique violence-prevention and self-defense training into the community.
