Mission: Our mission is to provide a safe, caring environment for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats until they can be placed with loving families, and to promote humane values in our communities. In addition to caring for the animals the shelter also provides coummunity outreach and education programs.
Programs: In 2013 we took in 313 cats and 44 dogs. We placed 302 cats and 44 dogs into adoptive homes. We spayed or neutered 195 cats and 12 dogs. In 2013 we participated in the healthy kids day at the penbay ymca, visited a brownie troop and talked about pet care and responsibilities, participated in weinerfest and a harvest hootenanny with ftctc. Laura helped with a summer reading program at the rockport library and she also led an after-school program on pet care and safety as part of the star program through five town communities that care. We have also worked closely with the penobscot pet food pantry, which helps people get food and supplies for their pets, much like a regular food pantry provides for humans. We hosted a volunteer appreciation picnic at the camden hills state park and we have a weekly column in the local papers as well as a bi-monthly tv show on the local cable stations.
