The Brevard Adult Literacy Volunteers, Inc. (BALV) is an organization that has helped many county residents improve their literacy skills and their personal lives. We have a volunteer base of 60-80 volunteers at any given time, with a large student participation Our volunteers meet with the students on a one-on-one basis, meeting in the local libraries throughout the county. We also provide training, teaching materials, and coaching for our tutors. Our students are learning how to improve their reading, writing and comprehensive skills, so they may obtain their GED's, enter formal educational programs, enter the job force, improve their job skills, and read to their children. Volunteerism with BALV is rewording, interesting, and enjoyable- I recommend it!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

meeting students who have met their literacy goals, and experiencing the satisfaction of helping others.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

follow the changes and improvements of our Strategic Plan-seeking yearly improvements within our operation to offer definitive services to those in our community.
