Tell your story here and help others understand this charity I have worked with this organization in two different states. I joined in 2006 when my middle son joined the Army. It has been a great organization to be a part of. There is nothing like having some one understand the roller coaster of emotions of having a child deployed. At one point I had two son's in harms way. Our chapter works with homeless vets at the 4th largest homeless veterans shelter in the nation. We not only work to support the men at the shelter but work to engage them in helping others. They open their dining area for us to pack boxes to send to the troops. We have done this several times and they have it down to a science. We can pack 300 boxes in 1 1/2 hours. We work with the local Patriot Guard and the shelter to do an annual dinner for our Gold Star families. We want them to know that their child's sacrifice is never forgotten. I would recommend this organization to any person wanting to support the troops. They are wonderful.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

many ways during the past 4 years. Most importantly is the support of someone who knows the emotional roller coaster of having a child in harms way. It empowers women to talk and yet have an outlet to help someone when you feel you are helpless.

I think this is a great orgainzation. I wish my mom new about you guys when I was deployed. I think it would have helped her alot. Now she is sharing her wisdom from my two deployments with others.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

the most kind and caring people. What they do for our Soldies is just wonderful. They spend all there free time thinking or projects or ways to take care of Soldiers. It is a wonderful oraganization

I have been a Blue Star Mother for 4 years. We send care packages to our troops as many times a year as possible depending on our donations. We recieve letters of thanks from service members who have felt forgotten by the rest of the US. I am honored to be a member of an organization that my great grandmother was a part of when my great uncles were serving in WWII. I can count on my BSM for support when I am feeling scared for my sons safety

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

support and sisterhood and doing something for our military

I have been a part of many groups, but the Blue Star Mothers is BY FAR the most selfless, tireless, Loving and supportive group of people I have ever worked with. My son, SFC Steven Hernandez will be deployed for the 4th time soon, and I KNOW my BSM family will be there whenever I am having a hard time coping with the "what ifs". We send out hundreds of packages 3 times a year to soldiers, who may never receive anything otherwise. We get emails and letters letting us know how much difference our hard work makes in their lives. I am HONORED to be aprt of the Blue Star Mothers of America, and proud of all our solders who help make this a GREAT Country. Please consider this my vote for Blue Star Mothers of America as the GREATEST nonprofit organization EVER!!! Sincerely, Sue Hernandez AVBSM Member

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My son, and nephew have both been recipients of the boxes we send to the soldiers while they are deployed. We have hosted 3 Welcome Home parties for the above mentioned soldiers, with the Patriot Guard and support organizations also attending.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have them get more support from the community, both in donations of the things we ship, and in funds to ship the boxes.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The sense of family is incredible. When they offer thier support 24/7, they really mean it. Both of my soldiers were dumbfounded by the love and support they received from this group of ladies, who they didn't even know personally.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Selfless, informative, supportive, and LOVING. I consider them all my family now. They know my soldier by name, and where he is serving, and in what capacity. If I have questions, or fears, they are always there for me.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Support MORE of the troops and their families with the boxes we send. We are always looking for more, new ways of raising money and awareness, so the public will reach into their pockets and share, whether that be money, or a package of socks.

Ways to make it better...

The general community were more aware of these events ahead of time, so they might be able to join in our celebrations.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funds to fill and send the boxes to the troops. We have donation events, booths at community events, ads in the paper, contests with other orgainizations...anything we can think of, but there is such a huge need, and not enough money.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am HONORED to know these ladies, who care for all our soldiers. They have given me an example to follow that I can apply in my every day life. I love them, and they deserve our votes!!!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. has been supporting our military, veterans and military families since 1942. They are outstanding in their volunteerism, especially to the Vaterans Hospitals and facilities all over the counrty.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

dealing with troops and veterans. I have talked to troops who have received suport from our members. I have talked to veterans who have received valuable information to enable them to get the help they need.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the bond between women from all walks of life, who have children in the military. They know what I am going through.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very grounded in their support of the Blue Star mission. They are passionate in their support.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach every mother of a military member and/or veteran, fund programs for veteran assistance and education for life after the uniform.
