If I had few words to sum up my experience as a "Big" it would be CRAZY AWESOME! The program is much needed and my only hope is that every challenged youth in America had access to a "Big" or some type of mentor!

More Feedback

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Absolutely!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Not sure...maybe just more matches for youth. Have a bigger "youth served" number????

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

rewards that come from knowing that I am of great need in my little's life.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Great! Very supportive!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

seriously ROCK! That would excite me to know that with big money BBBS could hopefully serve more of our youth...set up better activities..make the program more fun!

Ways to make it better...

I took more time developing community service events with my "little".

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

money. duh!

One thing I'd also say is that...

I love being a BIG.

I often wonder where that line exists that causes a child to go astray. I ponder what my life would have been like had my home life been different. Who would my mentor have been if it were not my parents? I have been involved for over a decade now with BBBS of Greater Sacramento and never once have I regretted a single moment spent raising awareness for the need of Big Brothers, fund raising to help hire more staff members in order to serve more kids, and strategizing with fellow business leaders on ways to meet the needs of not only the youth but also their parents in our community. While I have never "been a BIG", I feel my impact as a former board member and a volunteer is just as critical/important. I ask anyone reading this, who was your role model growing up? Help us ensure that the children in our community have someone that they too can point to in their lives as a mentor - support BBBS today!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

not only watching the numbers of matches grow on the reports I used to review monthly while on the board but also the sheer joy I've witnessed in children's faces when they are spending time with their bigs.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

simply amazing! As a board member I used to attend various activities for the Bigs & Littles and I was often amazed at the "bigs" that not only were spending time with their "litle" but also including their siblings who had yet to be matched up. Touching!

I have been a Big for almost a year now and the tie has just flown by. I t has been an amaizing experience and one that I am very greatful for. I expected to learn a lot from my match but I never expected this. I feel that this experience has really helped me gorw as a person. The team at BBBS has been very helpful in assisting with the match and did a great job matching us. It's like spending time with a 14 year old version of me.

I like to view my experience with a past, present and future view. When I was linked up with my Little Brother 8 years ago,the past, he was not certain about going on with he education past the 8th grade. My Little at that time was 7 years old and not really up with the ways of the world. He was not really into school and did not realize the need to continue with his education. Present, he has continued his education and is now in high school. He has done decently with all of his classes and has talked about college, and considering at least the two years of community college. We have had a great time together and he is quite open to ideas and establishing values that will continue throughout his life. He has helped this older man keep up with the world and a great experience. The organization is very helpful and in continuous contact throughout.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the past 8 years.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not really change anything right now.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The follow up by the staff and the communication via emails and phone calls.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very friendly and helpful

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand and make the cause known to the area.

Ways to make it better...

I were physically located closer to Sacramento in order to make use of all of the actvities that are offered.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Matching enough potential bigs with the littles. Getting the word out to potential volunteers.

One thing I'd also say is that...

It is a great experience for both of us.

This is a well run organization with dedicated staff a wonderful mission. They are efficiently run and well organized in their operations, training, matching bigs and littles (brothers or sisters), and overseaing their matches. I have been very happy to volunteer and have almost a perfect match in a little brother; great kid, smart, loves sports and new experiences. It has been very fulfilling to work with the organization and to directly inpact the life of a 13 year old in need. I have wonderful 20 and 16 year old girls and it has been enriching (for all of us) to also have a great 13 year old little brother. It is much better to be "rich" than have a lot of money.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the lives of myself, my family, my little brother, his family and my little brother's brother who also has a Big Brother from the program.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

be overworked, underpaid and underappreciated, and still have an overwhelming need for my organization's services in the community.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

spending time directly with my little brother.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

mostly young, smart, energetic and well intentioned; even the older ones like myself.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

fulfull its mission much better I presume.

Ways to make it better...

cannot think of anything to make better. Very happy with organization.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

money and volunteers I am told.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have given to a lot of charities, but nothing is as directly impactful as giving your time and energy directly to someone in need. It is an amazing thing to possibly directly impact the life of a young person for the better.

I am a staff member and former Big Sister as well. Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about matching youth to positive role models who can provide 1:1 time. I have learned a lot about the organization as a staff member and Big Sister.

I have been very pleased with my experience with Big Brothers Big Sisters. The application process was thorough but did not take an undue amount of time. My interactions with staff members have always been positive, and if I ever need support, I am confident that BBBS would be there to offer guidance. My Little Brother and I make a great match and have enjoyed both the activities we've planned together and the ones set up by BBBS. While mentoring can have its challenges and can make life busy at times, I feel fortunate to have met and to have learned from my Little Brother.

It has been a wonderful experience working with BBBS of Sacramento. My little and I have had fun together and I have been able to listen when he needed someone to listen. The staff are very supportive and concerned. I recommend the program highly.

When I first started with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, I had high hopes that I could make a difference in the life of a little sister. After my first experience with the program, I was a little disappointed and wasn't sure why? I seemed to be doing my best at being a Big Sister but I didn't seem to see any results with my Little Sister. Then, thanks to the insight from the program's coordinator, I realized I had been there for my Little Sister but could do better. All along I was trying to guide her in her life( I realized thats probably what her parent(s) do.) Then the BIG REWARD came when I became he BIGGEST supportor, just what a Big Sister would do to her little sister. Rather than trying to guide her, I turned it around and made time to give her to best kind of love and support she needed. Instead of chosing things to do, I asked her "What would YOU like to do?" Her inner excitement finally came out,"Visit the animals at the shelter!" she shouted with a smile of excitement...and off we went. and "Tell me about your week." I couldn't stop her from talking. I just smiled with great interest as we shared a Denny's pancake breakfast. I hadn't realized THAT is what I wanted to see in my little...her time...with the two of us doing what she likes to do. With the concert tickets and other free events offered through the Big program, I can help my little see a whole other part of life's possibilities she would normally not have. The Demi Lovato concernt made she feel like a real teen. The pool party at Elk Grove gave her a chance to show me her swimming skills. Her confidence is slowly building with all the opportunities the program provides. Her home life revolves around her brothers and what they want to do. With the Big program, they provide the venues and I provide the support and transportation so she has option to do what SHE wants to do. Today, she is always excited to spend the day together because she knows we will do what she likes to do. What a great way to help her growup and enjoy life. Sorry, an essay was needed to tell my story.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the free events/tickets provided to Big and their littles.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make sure Bigs know how to be truly supportive of their littles rather than just spending money on them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The free tickets and sponsored events.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Always helpful and especially recently, very knowledgeable about how to reach my goals in the program working with the littles.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

be used to provide the venues for Bigs and Littles to experience more arts, sports, and history as a learning experience (museums, events, concerts, etc).

Ways to make it better...

I had figured out how to be more supportive earlier in the program.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Offering enough opportunities and incentive to get more Bigs involved

One thing I'd also say is that...

The Big organization is something I wish I had when I was a young girl. I think I would have benefited tremendously and been able to enjoyed life at an early age. Without my own Big Sister, I was on my own to figure it out. That took a long time.

BBBS of Sacramento has greatly impacted my life. My little and I have become so close and have taught each other so many life lessons in just a few short months. We have volunteered to make a difference in our community, as we both have a common interest of helping others. I know that I help her feel more confident in herself and her abilities, which I hope will be reflected in our community as she reaches adulthood. BBBS allows individuals to not only give back to the community by mentoring the youths of our future, but it also gives us Bigs an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of an innocent child, which in turn, can also be reflected in a positive way in society.

More Feedback

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the attitude of my little and the attitudes of members of the community when we are out volunteering together.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

learning how to live life from the eyes of a young adult and to appreciate everything that comes my way.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

always very friendly and willing to help out in any way possible to make this experience all that it can be and more.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

allow more matches to be made as many people I have spoken too would like to be a Big but don't have the finances to hang out on a weekly basis.
