Ayuda is a great organization with good programs for the community. They work diligently and tirelessly to provide assistance, guidance and support to those who seek their care. For over 31 years AYUDA has been helping citizens of South Florida - parents, children, youth, elderly, and families - that are underserved and disadvantaged. The Family Empowerment, Elderly Overtown, Parents Now, and Go Kids GO Programs have been funded for more many years by the Children’s Trust. This is a great organization to be a part of!

Ayuda is a great organization with good programs for the community. Ayuda helps their clients take control of their life and learn skills to make better decisons and slef sufficiency. It's really wonderful to see how the counselors really go above and beyond to help cients beyond their counseling program.

Eight months ago I came to work for Ayuda, Inc and was so impressed by the mission of the organization. Today I feel not only that Ayuda is a great place to get helped at (from children to elders) but also a comfortable working environment where all staff and clients have become one family. If I had to choose again I would certainly come to Ayuda.

It is very touchy to see how families come with problems and leave the thirteen weeks groups feeling much better. It is really a gift.

I was a University student in the School of Social Work back in 1977 and was placed at AYUDA to gain experience while I was being supervised. I helped assess children with disabilities, met and counseled their parents, conducted play therapy, taught the children social skills, made community referrals to help support the family, and just learned sooo much! I was hired as a counselor and as the years progressed I became Executive Director and President of the organization. AYUDA is a great agency with great staff that goes over and above the call of duty to help and empower clients. AYUDA has conducted it's work "in the trenches", where clients cannot afford to pay for services. Clients range from infancy to frail elders and services reach throughout South Florida.

I came to work for Ayuda Inc. a few months ago and aside from been involve with the agency as a staff member, I'm so amaze to see all the help they provide kids, parents and families at risk. I am honor to work here and to know that I am part of such great organization. Besides the budget cuts Ayuda Inc. has suffer the agency has been able to continue it's great services to the community and keep on providing for our kids. I hope the future holds brighter days for Ayuda Inc. so we can keep on doing what we love best helping our children in need.

For over 31 years AYUDA has been helping citizens of Dade County - parents, children, youth, elderly, and families - that are underserved and disadvantaged. The Family Empowerment, Elderly Overtown, Parents Now, and Go Kids GO Programs have been funded for more than 9 years by the Alliance for Human Services and the Children’s Trust. By having these programs running, the community is saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in court costs as well as funds from the Department of Children and Family when children, youth, and the elderly are not self-sufficient and not cared for properly. AYUDA's programs have a meaningful, long-lasting impact on the lives of the children, teenagers, and adults we serve. What AYUDA does for its children and their families today will reflect on their lives in the future. AYUDA has also been present in case of natural disasters serving as drop off site for donations that were later sent to the victims of disasters such as the earthquake in Peru (August of 2007) and Hurricane Felix (September 2007)in Nicaragua.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In the Family Empowerment Program, I've personally seen the youth experiment great improvement in every aspect of their lives. I've also seen how every program that AYUDA develops has always helped the needy people in the community.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Be sure that the funds are available for the development of all the programs in order for the programs not to be closed as is happening.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Helping people in need, helping children and youth improve.

Ways to make it better...

Had funds always been available, things would have been much better. Unfotunately, the cuts that AYUDA's budget has been suffering have caused problems for the development of all of AYUDA's Programs.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have been a Board member with Ayuda for the past 5 years. During that time I've been constantly impressed by the dedication and passion of the staff in helping Miami's low income families - especially the children. Day care, summer camp, programs in art, music & journalism, and teenage empowerment counseling, are just a few of the very successful services offered by Ayuda. With budget cuts threatening many of the programs, I've seen the generosity of volunteers and staff with both time and money to make sure all our programs can continue. When I hear the beauty of our children's violin orchestra, read the creative stories written by children for their own newspaper, or hear about a troubled teenager who has turned her life around because of our counselors, I'm grateful for being a small part of these extraordinary efforts. When you can prove a 98% success rate in working with juvenile delinquents - insuring these young people will not continue down a dangerous path - you know you're doing something very right!!! I want to express a very special thanks and heartfelt admiration for the President and CEO of Ayuda, Luis de Jesus. With his leadership and consistent passion for Ayuda's work, I have seen this organization move to a higher level of awareness and effectiveness. Our community is very fortunate to have such a committed man running such an outstanding organization!!!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of children who would otherwise not have much to smile or laugh about. Knowing that what we do has such a great impact on families who are hurting.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

loving, dedicated and passionate in their work! The consistent positive attitude in spite of our financial challenges keeps everyone encouraged and uplifted.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the lives of all low income families throughout South Florida by dramatically lowering juvenile delinquencies, providing quality education, and supplying concrete tools to ensure bright futures for all young people.
