The Atlanta Humane Society and Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Mission Statement: " To Prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation of animals and to assure that their interests and well being are fully, effectively and humanely protected by an aware and caring society." AHS has been practicing adoption as an alternative to euthanasia since 1873. AHS was recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable tax exempt institution in 1942 and merged with the Georgia Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals in 1954. Established in 1873,the Society, is the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta and is historically the largest supplier of domestic pets in the Southeast.
