The Assistance League of Orange has enriched my life in many ways. When I joined eighteen years ago, I had recently retired from teaching after forty-five years and was looking for connections in my local community. I found so much more! There are so many ways to be involved with the organization that enrich my life and the lives of our members as well as those we help in the community.
My passion is helping to provide scholarships to amazing local high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership and service. It is a pleasure meeting them, knowing that we are helping them move ahead. We provide funds to about twenty student s each year.
As a former teacher, another project that is dear to my heart is “Links to Learning” which provides grants to local teachers for special projects that directly involve and benefit students in creative ways. It is rewarding to be involved in making those dreams come true.
Becoming a member is one of the best decisions I have made and I am proud to be a member.

I have been a member of Assistance League of Orange for 11 years. I never cease to be amazed by the sheer number of lives we manage to touch right here in our own community. All of our philanthropic programs are carried out by our very dedicated volunteers. We have NO paid management or administrative staff. In 2011-2012 our 370 members contributed 32,036 hours to help or improve the lives of well over 7,000 recipients.
My personal passion is our Dental Health Center where we provide low cost dental care to needy K-12 students in the Orange Unified School District. I volunteer by sterilizing equipment, preparing dental trays and sometimes helping to calm a nervous or crying child. There is so much need. I didn't know that children ever got root canals until I started started volunteering here!
I've also seen the huge smiles of a child receiving new school clothing and a backpack filled with school supplies through our Operation School Bell program. We "dress" nearly 1,200 kids every year.
I joined Assistance League of Orange in order to give back to the community...but no doubt I receive far more than I could ever give.
