As the family and community liaison for Countryside High School in Clearwater, Florida, I refer parents and students daily to your website and have handouts in my office. Every day 211 Tampa Bay Cares connects the residents of Pinelllas County and surrounding areas to over 5000 program services available. This is an enormous task and is handled with the care and compassion needed for those seeking help. 211 TBC fills a vital need every day in our community.
I have served on the Board of Directors, volunteered in the call center, and chaired a recent celebration event. I would love to do even more. I have seen how 211 TBC effectively and efficiently connects individuals in the community with very specific services they might need. The call center representatives are knowledgeable, caring, and dedicated. The management staffs is one of the best I've seen in Pinellas County. As I longtime Board member I have been in awe of the growth and professionalism of this organization.

Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of your great program. We all need to be aware of resources in our community and 211 certainly does that. Our non-profit, The LIfe Center, has plans to open our doors by the end of 2012. At that time we will be much better equipped to serve our community because 211 has already done so much to make local resources known. I have been involved with many non-profit organizations in my life, but 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares, Inc. has been the jewel in my heart. It is such an honor to be a part of such an organized, focused and well managed entity. Their services are crucial to many residents in the counties served; not to mention the corporate world which provides the knowledge of the services to their employees who may need them. With an overview of services that far exceed any program I have been a part of, it is hard not for me to bring up this organization in any conversation I may have with business colleagues, friends and family. Needless to say, it always astonishes them on the vastness of assistance and programs of what 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares does for their community. I have been privileged to hear the many stories of how 2-1-1 TBC has literally saved a family or a life - simply by providing the connections essential to their well being.

2-1-1 TBC serves as a vital communication link between health and human services resources in Pinellas County and individuals seeking help. 2-1-1 Tampa Bay Cares is a non-profit organization that provides the only free, confidential, multi-lingual, 24-hour dialing code - 2-1-1 - for access to community information, services and resources for Pinellas, Citrus, Hernando, Lake & Sumter counties. 2-1-1 provides a one-stop service for this vital information and enables people to get assistance, before individuals and families give up, by providing someone to talk to, someone to listen, and someone to help guide them to appropriate services.
I am a vouunteer for 211 Tampabay Cares. All volunteers go through a period of training so that we may better relate to the clients. The trainings are very organized and well presented. Each volunteer is given an opportunity for further instruction if necessary. All of the staff are genuine and make every vounteer feel very special. The staff hold special events and recognitions for the volunteers. It is the best volunteer situation I have taken part in.
I was a volunteer who personally took phone calls from clients and searched the database to give them information to help with their specific need. I can tell you without reservation that each day I finished my shift, and as I drove home, I was smiling and telling myself I had done something that made a difference. Every single person that calls is looking for an answer -- sometimes desperately looking. They are so very grateful for the information and for the kind voice on the phone. They look to 211 as their lifeline.
I tell everyone who will listen that 211 is the most important community service available for Pinellas county - and all the counties that provide 211 service. The database of information provides assistance, the suicide line saves lives, the new generation of homeless and failing citizens are given hope. Sometimes all the caller needs is someone to talk to. AND 211 listens.
I now assist on the Administration side as 211 Tampabay cares connects the various assitance organizations through a mutual data base. The clients now may call several agencies and find that they are already in the system and the person on the phone is ready to help and looking at their information.
211 is the best service out there for anyone who needs any type of assistance.

Assisting in the 211 Call Center is a source of personal value to me. You might also think one is helping the community in providing information on services such as shelters, treatment centers, tax preparation locations and food shelves. The personal value is not the reward that one might expect. It is the feeling that you have provided something to the 211 caller that they need. Working with the 211 staff is also high on the list of rewards. 211 Tampa Bay is a well organized group that continues to get better and stronger.

I am currently a volunteer at 2-1-1 tampabay cares and I couldn't be more proud to be apart of such a sincere and helpful organization. The people here have no problem making me feel welcome and appreciated. Everytime I show up, I am greeted with warmth and a willingness to help me feel comfortable. Apart from my experience, I have had the opportunity to see how caring and helpful 2-1-1 is towards callers as well. They always treat each caller with respect and try their best to give out the most appropriate referrals in reguards to the caller's needs. This organization, and the people in it, are truly a blessing.
