I have been a volunteer with this organization for 5 years, and feel that it is well run, well organized and operates with professionals! I have been a host parent, an area representative (AR) and now a volunteer and couldn't imagine doing anything else! The staff is supportive, kind, respectful and accommodating! They offer excellent training for the volunteers, they treat each applicant as though that applicant is the only one they have to care for! The level of support provided to the students while on the exchange program; be it here in the States or abroad, is outstanding!
I have been fortunate to be a flight leader on a few occasions, and have to say that the support I received to be able to carry out the assignment was superb! I cannot say enough about American Councils and the work they are doing. Changing the world with one student at a time! I enjoyed it so much that I recommended my spouse after retirement, as well as three others to help promote this organization and the important work it does!
I am excited about the upcoming school year, and look forward to seeing fellow volunteers again, and the new countries and students who will be joining us.
I have been a volunteer with American Councils for over 10 years and I must say I feel it is one of the best nonprofit organizations I have ever encountered. I have extensive volunteer experience both domestic and overseas (including 2 years in the Peace Corps) but I feel the relationship between American Councils and the U.S. State Dept. which brings so many young people to the U.S. for a year of education while also sending U.S. students abroad does more to enhance international relations, understanding and peace than any other program of this nature. The annual Insider Trips sponsored by American Councils gives us volunteers and friends the opportunity to actually meet alumni of the program and see what they are doing in their home countries. We get to really experience the culture of those countries while interacting with the people and the overseas staff of American Councils. I can hardly wait to begin another recruitment year and help identify the most promising candidates for the program.
I have been a volunteer at the American Council for about 10 yrs. I have been extremely impressed by the quality of the young people coming to the US for their 12 th grade high school year. These are all highly motivated young individuals who make significant contributions when they return to their home countries and communities. In addition, based on my own observations and meeting the Alumni, they bring as much to their host families as they receive. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and a pleasure to work with. The overall impression is of a very motivated and efficient organization, which makes for a great volunteer situation.
I've been a volunteer with this organization for the past year. American Councils is highly organized in terms of their volunteer structure and how they engage volunteers with meaningful projects. I have been so fortunate to play a small role in some of their programs, and have had the chance to interact with participants who also love their experience with American Council's facilitated programs.
I've been a volunteer with American Councils for two years. I am absolutely hooked on the international/global mission to provide educational opportunities to students who navigate and successfully complete the very competitive recruiting and selection process. Every student's success on the program is a huge success for them and an equally huge success for American Councils. I hope to continue to be a part of this incredible process for yours to come. Great...great programs.
This is great organization. They are incredibly supportive in their inbound exchange programs. I have been a Local coordinator, a host parent, and both my daughters have went abroad on scholarship with American Councils. They are very professional and caring.
I was selected as a Teaching Excellence Award recipient in 1998. Following this, I did an SSEP project in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan over a five year period with partner teachers in both nations. Both programs were administered by American Councils. I have now worked as a Local Coordinator with American Councils for seventeen years. In that time I have worked with over 80 students from over 30 nations. I have found American Councils to be supportive of me as a local coordinator and dedicated to international education and diplomacy throughout my 21 years of contact with them. I truly believe that they are making the world a better place by bringing people together in local communities in the United State and so many nations abroad. I'm delighted to give them my highest recommendation as a nonprofit.
I have been a volunteer with American Councils for International Education for seven years. My daughter is also a NSLIY Alumi, China 2014. It is an excellent organization to work and volunteer with. The people are dedicated professionals with a passion for international education. I am honored to be a part of the team!
I have been a volunteer for one year, and was impressed by the thorough training, and the way the professional staff values and supports the volunteers. reading and evaluating the applications is very interesting work since the students are so impressive! The Council treats volunteers very well - with meals and snacks in a great library space, although I find it more convenient to take a few applications home to read when I have time. They provide many opportunities to meet the the exchange students, alumni and other volunteers.
I have been an American Councils volunteer for more than 10 years. It has been incredibly rewarding to meet the students who are in the program or are successful alumni. The program is very well-run and uses a process that ensures equitable evaluation for all student applicants. As volunteers, we are always treated with respect and appreciation. Volunteering here has also presented opportunities to socialize and become friends with other volunteers from all walks of life. I intend to keep on volunteering here as long as I am needed.
I've been volunteering with American Councils for 3 years now, and am continually impressed with the way in which the organization continues to develop every detail of their volunteer program year after year. While evaluating scholarship applications has the potential to be tedious or monotonous, AC staff provide many opportunities to meet and learn from current grant recipients and alumni to see the impact the program has had. It is truly a special opportunity!
