In February and March of 1998 I stayed at the RMH in Austin. My son was born with a heart defect and I lived an hour away. In the 5 weeks I ws there it was amazing. They helped me out financially and made it feel like home. I had a wonderful 2 bed room with a balcony because you can't smoke in the RMH itself I was about to sit outside and do it with no problems. I had a place to call home that was just a mile from the hospital with privacy and company if I desired. I could speak with anyone there at anytime and no one ever turns their back to you. When my son passed away they showed more love and compassion then I could have ever asked for. (getting teary eyed) I was able to stay there a few more days and get all of my affairs in order and take care of what I needed to. Without them I would have not made it through a lot of the time my baby was there, I would have never left the hospital!

I have personally experienced the RMH in many forms over the last 13 years. About a year after my son died they sent me a letter telling me they were going to do a memorial Garden for all the babies that did not make it and that my baby was one of them. They invited me out for the ceremony and it was amazing! Just recently I contacted them about pictures of my son's rock because I live so far away now I can't just go up there anytime I want, Jan was amazing in helping me and getting me those pictures.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would not change a thing. it to this day brings tears to my eyes when I think about how amazing everyone is that works there and where I would have been had I not had them.
