My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Gesundheit Institute, Urbana, IL, USA
After seeing the film, Patch Adams, I wrote to Dr. Adams telling him how much the movie meant to me, and I included a very small donation to his organization. I have a very low income, so the gift was quite small, but it was the best I could do. He personally wrote back quite a letter, thanking me for my donation, asking how I was doing and telling me he was on a plane to Belen Peru to help the people there. I then sent a gift-in-kind, and received another delightful postcard from Patch, along with a suggestion of a book I could read that would help me with a medical condition I had been experiencing. The suggestions in the book allowed me to discontinue some meds I had been taking. I sent the amount that I would have spent on the medicine to Gesundheit!. His office staff are all just as kind and sweet and joyful as he is. When you deal with Gesundheit! you are more than a donor or a client or a volunteer, you are a treasured friend. And they do so much with so little, and they have NO DEBT at all! I highly recommend giving to this organization.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Even though I was a very minor donor, Gesundheit! treated my gift like it was gold. Then they got to know me as a person. They wound up helping me. They really walk the talk when it comes to the healing power of joy and friendship. Whenever I have a little extra, Gesundheit! will get it.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
raise enough money for them to build their hospital and start delivering free, loving, creative, joyful care in Pocahontas County, just as they do all over the world right now.
