Review for Connections For Children, Santa Monica, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Connections for Children is a wonderful resource, provider, and community partner on behalf of young children. CFC works with center-based and home-based child care and early education providers to improve quality and build morale, professionalism, pride, knowledge, skills --- all good things! They also serve as a key resource for parents. I know them from my work as a community member (and elected official now). They are wonderful partners and collaborators. A few examples of great projects --- toy loan mobiles for home day care providers; working with mental health experts to provide center based and home based providers and parents with knowledge and skills for working with children who have special needs in an inclusion setting; Raising Readers community festival; staff attending and co-chairing City's Child Care and Early Education Task Force, .... I could go on and on. They are the glue that holds our early childhood community together and that keeps parents and families from falling apart!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Attending the Raising Readers Festival, a community event, which brings young children and their families, early education providers, non-profits, books and entertainers together to celebrate and promote emerging literacy in a fun way.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Provide it with more money and staff and suggest "beach-head" offices in parks and libraries throughout the community so that CFC would be more visible and even more accessible to more families. It'd be great to have them in every park with a children's playground!

Role:  General Member of the Public & I worked (as a volunteer) with staff on building community support for early childhood through financial aid for preschool and an Early Childhood Initiative.
