My wife and I visited the monarch butterfly wintering areas in Michoacan a few years ago and were absolutely enthralled by the butterfly roosts. We stayed at Jose Alvarez's hacienda and toured his reforestation greenhouses. Travel to Michoacan is next to impossible nowadays because of the drug-related violence in that area, so tourism revenues are down. It is therefore especially important that LCHPP receive funding from other sources. It is a wonderful project. The monarch butterfly is one species that we must work hard to save.
