Review for Take2 Inc, Chevy Chase, MD, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Take 2 provides an intensive social skills program for children with autism spectrum disorders. For eight years it has been making a difference in the lives of children and their families through a four week summer curriculum that builds on the childrens' strengths to teach them the friendship skills that are such a challenge for them. The program also teaches strategies for managing emotions like frustration and anxiety, and provides a framework for supporting various aspects of executive function like planning and organization.

While the challenges of an autism spectrum disorder are lifelong, a month of intensive support can make a dramatic difference by clarifying a way forward. For many children, Take 2 is their first experience of social success, the first time they feel they have friends and are wanted as part of a group. For parents it's often the first time they've felt their child's strengths are truly appreciated. When children with autism spectrum disorders are better able to access the larger world, everyone benefits.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Most children who come to Take 2 have very limited access to social opportunities of any sort due to their disability. Traditional camp settings don't work. They are either not accepted for enrollment in the first place or, if accepted, they remain lonely and isolated. At Take 2, children improve their friendship skills and find greater success at home, at school and at play.

Take 2 deserves to be better known! www.take2camp.org

Review for GlobalGiving, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We're a tiny organization with very little infrastructure, administrative support or advanced technical expertise. This poses real challenges for fundraising. Global Giving allows us to function on a much higher level in all of these areas and gives us access to a pool of donors that would otherwise be entirely unknown and unavailable to us. It also greatly improves our ability to communicate with our donors.

As I said above, Global Giving has been a huge asset to Take 2 and has increased our fundraising capacity in every way. http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/teaching-children-with-autism/
