Review for Cancer Schmancer Foundation, Reston, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I haven't had the chance to participate in any functions, but I firmly believe in supporting a just cause. Celebrity endorsements or celebrity initiated causes can be a great way to draw attention to an issue. Despite my love of Fran Drescher's character and personality, I could not support this cause if I didn't believe wholeheartedly in the cause and her role in it. She's the perfect voice for such a movement and a fantastic inspiration for everyone. Fran updates on Facebook, Twitter and the Cancer Schmancer website consistently and frequently to share about the latest events, most recent news, and what's being done making it impossible to be out of the loop. This movement is so powerful yet still down to Earth that you feel like cancer detection in Stage 1 for everyone is an achievable and realistic goal. I only hope that at some point I can be a bigger part of the movement. With every fiber of my being, I'm proud to support Cancer Schmancer.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

through several stories of successful diagnosis of cancer in stage 1 because they heard the message of Cancer Schmancer.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do my best, as Fran Drescher is, to coordinate events in varying cities, get the word out, and update on recent developments and success stories via social network sites as well as through traditional news media.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people who support the movement, an enigmatic personality in a spokesperson like Fran Drescher, and full faith that the mission of Cancer Schmancer can be realized.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

have endless possibilities. It would support events in more locations, donations to research, possibly open clinics specializing in cancer detection that are available to anyone with or without medical coverage.

Ways to make it better...

there were events in my area or within driving distance. I would love to participate more, but finances prevent travel to the cities the events are mainly held in. If Cancer Schmancer never makes it down South, one day I will be able to make the trip.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

how to spread the word far and wide so that Cancer Schmancer becomes recognizable in every household, much like the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

One thing I'd also say is that...

cancer CAN be diagnosed in stage 1, and that this organization can help save the lives of innumerable amounts of people. Because Fran survived, it's impossible to know how many people whose lives she's responsible for saving by getting the word out.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
