Review for Empowerment International, Albuquerque, NM, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I continue to be inspired by the work that is being done by Kathy Adams and the other folks at Empowerment Intermational. Just spend a day with the kids from the barrios that participate in the program and you' be inspired too. The extracurricular activies the participants are involved in include a bike and photography club. The bike club continues to win competitions and by Having the kids lead these programs instills a sense of responsibility in them. EI's basic mission is to do whatever it takes to empower a child to break the cycle if poverty through education. But the organization goes far beyond this basic mission. Without EI, I'm afraid to think what would happen to the kids that wouldn't be getting an education otherwise.

Review for Empowerment International, Albuquerque, NM, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I visited Nicaragua on several occasions and fell in love with the country and it's people. After returning home from one of my trips, I decided to find a way to help the people of Nicaragua. I found many NGO's doing business there. One thing led to another and I was led to Empowerment International. I liked what I read on their website and decided to start by making a donation for one child's education expenses for a year. On a subsequent trip to Nicaragua, I met Kathy Adams, the Exec Dir/Found of EI and Deepa. I fell in love with them immediately and saw first hand how EI is helping "empower" the children achieve their educational goals. EI is not providing a hand-out but teaching folks how to overcome the obstacles that could keep them from reaching their goals. Kathy's passion for the kids and her dreams for the program are outstanding. When Kathy visited DC, I had a "meet and greet" for her to meet some of my friends. We skyped Deepa and some of the kids in from Granada. It was a super fun event, enjoyed by all.
