My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network Inc, Philidelphia, PA, USA
I have been cooking dinners for NPHIN since it's inception, and hosting on the evenings I cook. I always make it a practice to do this at least twice (to get to know the guests better) during each rotation at our synagogue and help out at other congregations when asked. I've also helped connect the organized Secular Jewish community with the program. Being involved in NPHIN led to my writing a book about homeless families and children in America. What becomes evident when working with these families is how diverse the homeless population is and how invisible. The other thing that has always impressed me is the tight connections between the children and their parents. After volunteering with the Network one can no longer say that will never happen to me or someone I love.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Families and single women who graduate from the program are able to turn their lives around even in this difficult economy. They are treated with respect and respect themselves. Almost all of the parents are involved either in working or educational programs so they can not be accused of trying to get by on charity.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Expand it's ability to reach more needy families.
