My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County, Oakland, CA, USA
As a volunteer at the soup kitchen, I have been pleased at the level of respect to the clients that are served. There is a very strong emphasis on compassion, respect, and recognizing the worth of each individual. I do find that the organization of volunteers is very haphazard: too many people versus not enough, reliability of who will be there and how to notify management if not coming, what jobs people are assigned to and what that job entails. But that aside, it manages to work out fine and the paid staff seem to be both competent and approachable.

not sure how to answer this
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
For volunteers in dining room: make it easier to have a set schedule, to change it, and to notify mgmt when not coming. Have volunteer tasks clearly defined so that a new person can step in easily. Have a go-to person for questions, issues. Have a way to immediately notify a security person when a situation looks problematic.
Thank you so much for your honest review and kind words about our organization! It is so valuable to hear about your experience and to share it with others. We do have folks available to help volunteers who have questions about their tasks and scheduling, I'm sorry that hasn't been your experience thus far! You can always email email@example.com or call 510.877.9237 to add or cancel a shift. We will try to make this info more available - keep the comments coming! And thank you sincerely for your service.
