Review for GLSO Pride Center, Lexington, KY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I started dating my first partner when I was 15. We were together for 10 years. Sadly, at the age of 25 I became a widower and a recluse. When my partner died I basically went into hiding for 9 years. I was done with the world until I found the GLSO Pride Center. Everyone I came into contact with there listened to my story with compassion, sincereity and heart. They encouraged me to reconnect with the community and supported me emotionally as I did. Eventually I began volunteering with The GLSO Pride Center and still work with them to this day, 10 years later. One thing I am most proud of is the fact that The GLSO Pride Center makes every attempt to keep their social event prices low so that EVERYONE in the community who wants to attend can.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the faces of our community, many of whom came to the Pride Center when they felt they were all alone in this world.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

like to come up with a strategic, long term plan on how to work toward obtaining our own property.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the sense of unity in the community. I like the fact that the GLSO Pride Center serves as an umbrella organization for all the local GLBT organizations and some non-GLBT organizations.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

sincere, loyal, dedicated and determined.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

finally fulfill it's dream of having it's own building in the heart of Downtown Lexington.

Ways to make it better...

more people would get involved with the board....and be active about it...not just sit on the board.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

finances, as with most non-profits.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The GLSO Pride Center is a much needed service in our area. They are a vital resource to mothers of teens who are just coming out and to those in the community who may have "lost themselves" for a while and everything in between.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
