My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for American Numismatic Association, Colorado Spgs, CO, USA
I cannot believe that there is only one review here, and it is a negative one eleven years old. That reviewer has obviously not seen (or has chosen not to participate in) the many programs that the ANA runs that are not involved with buying or selling coins, medals, and paper money.
I have been a member for 47 years, and never have time at the conventions (I go to all of them) to do any significant shopping. All of my time is occupied with attending meetings of specialty clubs, attending the educational lectures, and reading the educational exhibits entered by competitive exhibitors and by the ANA’s own museum. I have also attended the Summer Seminar for over twenty years. It is true that many members cannot afford the time and expense of participating to the extent that I do, but there are many more ways to enjoy the ANA’s assets than by attending events in person.
The monthly journal is replete with information about all aspects of money and its related historic and artistic significance; the entire 125+ year run of the journal is accessible to members online; the library lends books and periodicals by mail for only the cost of postage; more recently, there are scores of recorded lectures available online covering all the topics that the convention lectures present; and the ANA provides support to local and regional collector groups, making its presence accessible in every corner of the world. Anyone who is failing to take advantage of these opportunities is simply not trying.
