Review for Home Port Alliance for the USS New Jersey, Inc., Camden, NJ, USA
As a Midshipman in 1956 I had the pleasure of sailing on the New Jersey. It was the first Navy ship that I was ever on and my memories of being aboard and traveling to Europe and seeing those big guns fire shall always be remembered.
When she was coming home to Camden, I knew that I had to get involved.
I have been a Docent volunteer for eight years, a Board member for three years and a donor to help preserve the ship and its history. I truly enjoy giving tours on the ship and sharing the ship's history with others; particularly the young school children and the many foreigners who spend a day of their vacation and, or, business trips to visit the ship. Everyone marvels at her size and her condition (maintained by volunteers),
