Review for Hands Across the Sea, Inc., Boston, MA, USA
I want my hat back by Jon Klassen was just one of the many books which made a lasting impact on the lives of the students at La Borie Pre Primary School. The books received from Hands Across the Sea was immediately used to establish a library. The library created excitement among the students as they were allowed to choose their favourite books to carry home. This opened an avenue for the parents and children to have increased bonding time while reading. The parents were often heard encouraging their children to borrow books to read at home which support early literacy among our pre schoolers.
The teachers used the books to teach key context, build vocabulary, literacy and comprehension just to mention a few. The teachers used a wide variety of genre to meet each child at their developmental level this supported best practices. The books allowed the students to travel the world without leaving Grenada which resulted in expanded knowledge.
A result of the students interacting with the books we have noticed a burning desire to picture read, early readers, increase in confidence, vocabulary, improved attention, better concentration, imagination and creativity among our boys and girls.
In an era like ours were early literacy is of utmost importance, we say thank you and look forward to the continued support and collaboration from Hand Across the Sea in supporting literacy.
