Review for A Shelter for Cancer Families (ASCF), Houston, TX, USA
ASCF's program in Houson significantly reduced my anxiety surrounding how to access quality cancer care, not available in New Mexico.
Realizing that my cancer had progressed and the need for treatment created a tornado of confusion. The thoughts of treatment details, location of care, housing and financial details overwhelmed me. In time clarity emerged on the treatment plan. The task of finding housing on a retired teachers pension felt impossible.
Then, one day, Tiffany Criswell from ASCF called to tell me that my application had been accepted. When she reviewed the generosity of the program, I was overwhelmed. This action, essentially the Mission of ASCF, immediately brought clarity as to how my wife and I could navigate the course of my treatment in Houston. In fact, it was the piece of the puzzle that allowed me to proceed with my cancer treatment plan in Houston. Without the ASCF program, I would have likely been forced to seek substandard care elsewhere due to my financial status.
When we arrived we found all the housing details had been taken care of by ASCF staff. Over the time of our visit, which included shifts in my treatment schedule, an ice storm and electrical blackout we always felt safe and supported. Tiffany was always there to help.
Thank you all for the lovely apartment, great neighborhood and easy access to all my treatment locations. The generosity of ASCF made my cancer treatment achievable.
The kindness of the ASCF organization and staff will forever be appreciated. The Mission of ASCF and its staff saved me.
Many blessings to each of you,
Bob and Kathleen Walsh and the entire Walsh family
