My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for American Blues Theater, Chicago, IL, USA
I've had the privilege of working with ABT on many different projects over the last fourteen years. ABT shows a strong commitment to their mission statement in both the choice of plays and in outreach activities - an excellent example is the partnership with the Illinois Farmer's Bureau to raise awareness for Illinois farmers during the 2010 run of "Tobacco Road."
ABT treats its staff and artists with both love and respect - there is always great love and camaraderie, which is wonderful, but behind that is a strong and ethical administrative process: Checks are on time, working conditions are excellent and the process uniformly collaborative.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
At every performance of "It's a Wonderful Life" a veteran was honored - his or her picture was show on the screen and a description of his/her service was read. On many occasions, the vet was present at the performance and was always moved by the experience - as were we all.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Pay the actors more (of course!) and establish a regular education outreach program.
