My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for National Brussels Griffon Rescue Incorporated, Dallas, TX, USA
In December 2019, I applied at NBGR to adopt. I had lost my precious boy more than a year prior and the timing was right. The application interview and selection process is very thorough. Before adopting a dog from NBGR, they check personal references, vet references and also do a home visit. Although there were no dogs available at that time, I received a call from Vicki O’Neill indicating she may have a dog that was recently taken from a mill, but she wasn’t ready yet to be put up for adoption. Millie exhibited a lot of mill dog behavior. She was nervous, skittish, and afraid of anything new. She would not walk on a leash and was on meds for stomach concerns most likely due from nervousness and anxiety issues.
Vicki and I both agreed that it would be best for Millie, if we waited a bit to give her a little more time. In June, Vickie and her husband travelled over three hours to bring Millie to me! Vickie not only came with Millie but she brought her bed, her favorite toy, and enough food for a week or two. I am sure Vickie wanted to feel comfortable that she was leaving Millie in good hands with me and also wanting to see my home, my back yard, and my other dogs. I thank her for that!
Millie was a challenge. The first few days were rough, but each day improved. She no longer is on meds and she is now walking on a leash without a problem. Millie is a work in progress and so rewarding as I see her progressing.
NBGR is a dedicated and caring group that saves and improves the lives of Brussels Griffons. I cannot say enough about them. I appreciate all the work that NBGR does to ensure the welfare of every dog and in bringing Millie into my life!
