Review for Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence Inc., Colorado Springs, CO, USA
I began volunteering with this organization in the fall of 2018. As a survivor of domestic violence, I felt that this was the perfect place to not only support men and women that are going through similar situations but also to continue my path to healing by helping others. I was surrounded by a wonderful team and the amazing founder, Kristen Faith.
Late last year, the Board of Directors suddenly fired Kristen without merit and publicly announced it without regard to the volunteers and, more importantly, the survivors. The way things were handled were beyond unprofessional and seemingly were a self-servient effort by way of Board President Tara Woodlee. Along with several other members of my team, I made the decision to leave the organization a few days after the announcement of Kristen's dismissal.
I feel as if all of the hard work that Kristen, our team and I put into this organization have gone out the window. The support for a diverse group of survivors has appeared to have waned. Other volunteers have come forward with stories of mistreatment. This is unacceptable and worrisome in numerous ways.
I do hope that the honesty of this review and others will create change.
