Review for Society Of The Sacred Heart Dba Sprout Creek Farm, Poughkeepsie, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Sprout Creek is a wonderful organization that has based itself around the learning that happens when children (and adults) work directly with the land and with animals. Their appreciation for the land, as well as for their students and teachers is amazing. I have helped milk cows at 6am and thought that there is nowhere I'd rather be and nothing I'd rather be doing. When helping there, I always feel that my work is doing the most good for the world that I can do.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Teaching students to appreciate farming and agriculture, as well as the natural world around us.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Hire more folks to live and work at the farm long-term. Be clear about the 10-year plan for the place. Become a separate non-profit from Sacred Heart. Nothing else!! So much is wonderful.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The community and belief in people that their program is based around.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Friendly, fun, interested believers in the earth and in their work!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Have an endowment so that it could continue to put it's energy into the great programs without worrying so much about the bills and expenses.

Ways to make it better...

Not sure it could be better. The directors are wonderful but so busy- always a challenge to keep things moving forward. They could probably use a it more qualified paid help!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Making sure that people understand it is not a religious teaching organization- that they are quite separate from the Sacred Heart and that they receive no money or backing from them, nor do they teach with any religious affiliation in mind.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The people there believe in what they are doing with all of their lives.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Volunteer & I helped with the children and also with milking the cows!.
