Review for Laura Baker School Association, Northfield, MN, USA
When I was first asked to be a part of the Laura Baker arts residency program, I felt as though I had been given a gift like no other. I knew Laura Baker was a special place and what I discovered is that it is one of the most caring, thoughtful, and intentional places I’ve been a part of. A place that has changed my perspective, the way I teach and learn, and has moved me beyond words.
While working alongside the art and music educators, I witnessed the intention and care that was given to each client, meeting them where they are at and building a foundation of trust along the way. A foundation that leads to magic. The magic of a clients smile after they paint the first brushstroke of a new color they had created. The laughter of a story shared in the comfort of feeling part of a community. The magic of a client able to stay at the table a bit longer than usual because of the song beautifully being played on the guitar next to them. And while singing along, they are able to explore the art material in a whole new way.
It is within these moments where your heart begins to open. Where presence and patience take on a new meaning. Yes indeed, a true gift it has been. One I hope to continue to nurture, learn from, and share with our community. Thank you Laura Baker! -Angie Ekern
