Review for Umps Care Charities Inc, Edgewater, MD, USA
As Special Services Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh I can say it has been a pleasure to work with the Umps Care Charities year in and year out as they provide Bigs and Littles with unique experiences that will be remembered for a lifetime.
Our mentoring matches have greatly enjoyed the Blue Crew experiences which include an opportunity to get a behind the scenes view of PNC Park as they make their way out onto the playing field to meet with the umpires who will be working the game. Each of the umpires that participate greet each match and eagerly share not only some of their expertise but show genuine interest and concern for the youth, asking them an as many questions as they themselves receive. In addition to the personal attention, each of the matches receive a gift of a baseball, get a photo taken with the umps and in addition to tickets to watch the game - they also receive an awesome goody bag of baseball snacks.
All of this adds up to an experience that makes each of our Littles (and their Bigs) feel special - and that is an immeasurable gift to share. BBBS of Greater Pittsburgh was one of the original charity partners to benefit from Umps Care Charities and I can say that many, many matches have been lucky enough to add this experience to their bucket list...and each I can say have walked away with a great memory and a greater appreciation for baseball and the umpires who play such an important role.
We greatly appreciate all the great work done by the folks at Umps Care Charities!
Review for SLB Radio Productions, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA
Larry and the entire crew at SLB are an amazing group of people who strive to provide a platform for Pittsburghers young and not so young to showcase their talents, as well as the positive things they have going on in the community. As a staff member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh we have had the honor of featuring a BBBS "Match of the Month" for over 8 years. Having a monthly opportunity for our Bigs and LIttles to share their stories not only provides these individuals a chance to express their individual feelings and experiences - which our matches really enjoy; but also hopefully sparks interest in our program to increase enrollment of potential volunteers and or children.
Having been a guest along side out matches on many of these monthly features I can say without hesitation that Larry does an amazing job of listening to each and every Big and Little and helping them share all the unique things about them with the listening audience. Sometimes he does such a good job that he has had a few Bigs (and the staff on hand) in tears as they might have shared out loud for the first time the impact that being a Big has had on their life...sometimes those emotions sneak up on you and Larry has been the one to ask the question that lets them share those real , often powerful, feelings.
This weekly radio show is a gem and as an agency BBBS of Greater Pittsburgh appreciates their support and as an individual always feel enriched and happier after participating in and listening to the weekly programming!
