My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Kenya Connect Inc, Elkridge, MD, USA
Small but mighty, focused, boots on the ground, all tasks are everyone tasks, are thoughts that come to mind when I think about Kenya Connect. I work for one of the partner schools here in the United States and had the opportunity to travel to Wamunyu in 2017. It would be so easy for a group to arrive and want to start handing out toys, games, clothes, money, as the abject poverty is something that we cannot even begin to imagine here in the United States. Kenya Connect remains focused on the mission of breaking down barriers to education access, teacher professional development, and student enrichment. Initiatives include solar lights for reading at night, hand washing stations and deworming for the prevention of illness, menstrual health education and reusable sanitary supplies for girls, and eyeglasses. Both teachers and students are visibly wanting to learn. I could not walk onto a campus and not be greeted by children who were so excited to have an opportunity to engage and view the books and materials we brought for sharing. The mobile library, a learning center that lends books, classroom manipulatives, and provides computer access support students and teachers in accessing educational opportunities previously unavailable.
Education is a major component in reducing poverty in the world and I am so blessed to have found an organization that delivers on their mission.
