My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for My Hero Project Inc, Laguna Beach, CA, USA
I am Margaret Chen from Taiwan. Last semester, my class and I joined MY HERO project of the iEARN Learning Circles. At first, I planned to let my students make their own webpages for sharing the heroes in their lives with our foreign partners. But the plan couldn’t keep up with the changes. At that time, the COVID-19 outbreak started to affect the educational systems worldwide, causing the closures of schools. We change the project plan. Our Tunisia project partner had a great idea – creating a padlet and encouraging students to share their ideas on COVID-19. Through the sharings, students from Taiwan and Tunisia communicated the changes of everyday lives, reflections on the causes of COVID-19, thankfulness to COVID-19 heroes, and what everyone could do to stop the pandemic. The collaboration was authentic learning, helping students see the cross-cultural similarities and differences, realize the power to change the world, and inspire them to act in a positive way. The students were eager to learn about what their partners said, so most of the time they themselves would go on the padlet to send postings and comments. The project just buids a bridge to connect the current world and the classroom.
My Hero also provides a lot of resources for educators. Best of all, the project facilitator always provides quick supports for participants, which is the main reason that I can complete the project successfully. I really appreciate My Hero team for bringing teachers and students such meaningful learning opportunities. I will be happy to join again and recommend My Hero to more educators.
