Review for Foundation To Assist Young Musicians (FAYM), Las Vegas, NV, USA
In 2003 I wrote the grant (Grants Management, Clark County School District, Las Vegas) that was funded, was for $1,200,000 dollars, and was for three years. The Principal of Sunrise Acres ES, one of three poor schools, was Arturo Ochoa. We met at Sunrise. Hal wanted to start violin program for kindergartners. Everyone agreed. Fast forward: the students appeared with Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra at its annual 4th of July concert. They're were 10 students and two volunteer teachers. Now it's grown to 200 students, 10 paid teachers, and three instructional sites. FAYM also has awarded collegiate scholarships ($2000 a year for four years) to 20+ students who major in music at such places as the Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana University, Eastman School of Music, Interlochen Music Academy and others. I love FAYM!
