Review for Northwest Family Services, Portland, OR, USA
Alex is an amazing resilient 16-year-old high school student. He was referred to NWFS last year as his father was sentenced to four years after years of domestic violence against Alex’s mother. Many times, Alex intervened and he went to them with a lot of trauma. Despite the upheaval at home, as well as being homeless, this young man’s resiliency is awe-inspiring. He has thrived in their program and getting to know him has been a joy. He is an active member in the JROTC program at his local high school and he is passionate about becoming a pilot. Through NWFS' programs they have been able to assist this young man in getting his driver’s license, basketball fees, new clothes, and school supplies and be a constant presence in his life. Recently Alex’s team took first place at the JRTOC competition. Their programs are striving to provide Alex with protective factors that might make the difference for him.
