Review for Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen, San Jose, CA, USA
To me, this is work is very rewarding because it is very personal. You actually meet the people you are helping. Volunteering at Loaves and Fishes reminds me of the powers of a simple smile, a thank you, or a word of encouragement. At the Loaves and Fishes Family Kitchen, typically the work lasts for about 2 and a half hours. You are assigned a specific job (pour drinks, serve food at the food line, etc...). When the eating is done, ALL VOLUNTEERS help clean. It is tiring work, but I leave the kitchen with a feeling of satisfaction from serving my community. I enjoy the work, and I enjoy the interaction with the other volunteers and the folks who show up for a warm meal. I am very glad to be a regular volunteer here :)
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing the smiles on people's faces, and hearing them say "thank you." I feel good about what I do, and I'm reminded to act as a humble servant.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
have music played in the dining hall while we work and others eat.
