My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Electronic Privacy Information Center, Washington, DC, USA
I have long been impressed with the expertise and integrity that EPIC brings to privacy and open governance issues. The modest staff punches well above its weight with leading publications in the field, amici briefs in major privacy cases, and FOIA and other suits of its own. They are the leading organization, I believe, in sorting out the privacy issues in cutting edge issues, particularly those involving new technologies. Their actions in the drone, airport scanning, and IT areas, particularly lead the country in identifying ways that these technologies could impact personal privacy. It is also a leader in global activities, e.g., with OECD and other international venues.
Review for Community Water Center, Visalia, CA, USA
CWC advocates for clean and affordable water in the Central Valley of California. With a relatively small staff they have become effective advocates throughout the state. Indeed in 2010 the co-directors won the Carla Bard Advocacy Award from the Public Officials for Water and Environmental Reform (POWER), an award for the most effective water advocate in the state. Their stories are making it into the press more and more, e.g., a sotry on water contamination in Seville, CA that appeared in the L.A. Times, http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-seville-water-20101107,0,1152053.story
