Review for National Center for Health Research, Washington, DC, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is the only nonprofit I know of that people with almost any medical condition or health problem can turn to for evidence-based answers! They help patients and family members who contact them by phone, email or through social media-help them sort fact from fiction, data from hype. They interpret medical research in such a way that anyone can understand what it means. Just as important, they also explain how all the different and sometimes conflicting studies fit together, and the significance for patients. "Is it a good idea to take this medicine or not?" "Should I get that surgery or not?" Hardly any doctors take the time to do what this small nonprofit does for patients. I really love the work they do to ensure that medical products like drugs and implanted devices really are safe and effective before we use them. They keep regulators on their toes ! In fact, they perform a watchdog role unlike any other organization I know of. The National Center for Health Research is an under-appreciated gem!

Review for Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund, Washington, DC, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

When my mother was diagnosed with late stage lung cancer, the Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund was the organization I most trusted to help my family navigate treatment options and questions around palliative care. Dr Zuckerman and staff are renown for scrutinizing research and synthesizing findings into information that patients, family members and health care providers can understand and use. Unlike so many other cancer nonprofits, the Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund NEVER accepts donations from pharmaceutical companies which is how you can know that their advice is always unbiased.
