Review for Girls Rock! DC, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Girls Rock! DC staff and volunteers have been so nimble and responsive during this pandemic, providing the same -- or more/better! -- camp, after school and workshop programming as before the pandemic. Youth and family demand are in many ways increasing: GR!DC held TWO week-long virtual summer camps in 2021. Programming for adults, such as one-day and weekend-long We Rock! workshops, provides not just fundraising for youth programming, but new ways for the community to engage with the organization and find a home in GR!DC. Youth leadership is at the forefront of this growing and evolving organization. I'm thrilled to see what comes next.

Review for Girls Rock! DC, Washington, DC, USA

I've been involved with Girls Rock! DC as a camper, a volunteer and now a board member. The work this org does in the community is crucial. It provides a platform for girls, trans youth and nonbinary youth to be confident, be loud and be heard. What I love about the organization's programming is that it helps campers identify their own greatness and the greatness in others, and encourages them to share that greatness with the rest of the world. GR!DC is an opportunity for youth, particularly BIPOC youth, to learn how to play music individually AND collaboratively.

The organization has moved beyond just the traditional summer camp model (though that is still strong, even in our virtual COVID-19 world), and offers an after school program and adult camp as well. The people I've met through GR!DC are some of my closest friends, and the skills I've learned there have carried through both in my professional life and personal. It's a profoundly life-changing organization, but it's also incredibly fun. Would recommend.
