My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for High Fives Non-Profit Foundation, Truckee, CA, USA
Prior to the accident I worked as a firefighter/paramedic in Reno and was finally making strides in my dream career. The saying “anything can happen in a blink of an eye happened to me.” On December 28th, 2019, I endured an event that possibly altered the future of my life. I was in an off road accident that resulted in me sustaining an L1 tear drop burst fracture with spinal cord damage. This left me paralyzed from the sternum down. I honesty did not know how to feel. Going from helping others to being the one to need the help. When I arrived at rehab I felt as though I lost everything and did not know how to deal with it. The support from family and friends is amazing, though they truly don’t understand what I was actually experiencing. But then, another blink of the eyes gave me hope when Roy walked into my room. We sat and talked for hours and just the insight he provided me gave me that hope that I was missing. Finally having someone that has experienced something similar to me and has made tremendous progress was what I needed physically and mentally. Since then, the support from High Fives, Renown, and countless other, I have reached personally goals that fully exceeded my expectation. High Fives provides generosity, optimism, and hope to people who might have lost sight of that after an accident. The entire staff/athletes from top to bottom are just amazing like-minded people who truly understand how hard these life changing events can be. The foundation has opened new doors for me in life and I could not be more grateful for everyone that has helped me along the way. Thank you High Fives for everything you have done for myself and many others!
