Review for AAUW, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I and proud to say that I have been a member and supporter of AAUW since 1972, in two different branch locations. In terms of money given worldwide to further the education of women, AAUW is at the top. AAUW Funds provides grants and fellowships at the rate of $3.7 million a year. In turn, the recipients of these opportunities go back to their communities with their Knowledge and expertise. The work done on behalf of women through the Legal Advocacy Fund has supported military women in their fight against assault. The work done on college campuses through programs like Elect Her and Start Smart have enabled young women to create and head towards their bright futures. AAUW 's public policy work, though never ending, has set a fire under many a calm and soft-spoken woman, enabling her to stand up for social justice. On the branch level, I have been personally inspired by the women with whom I work and socialize. Through our programs, book clubs and other dynamic interest groups, I have grown in wisdom and friendship. AAUW's reach is wide and strong. I am so proud to be a member!

Review for Reading Connection, Inc., Arlington, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been volunteering for The Reading Connection for about 10 years. Everyone involved has huge amounts of enthusiasm for the kids and for books. The volunteers go out of their way to make the read-alouds very special and a lot of fun. The most rewarding part is when the kids ask for books by a certain author or on the theme of the read-aloud. It is great when they have trouble choosing from the give away books because there are so many they are interested in. I am sure we are creating readers for life!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make sure every community has a read aloud site.

Review for United Community, Alexandria, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I am a volunteer and donor. Because of United Communities our community is a better place. Not only do they provide food and shelter for many in need, they provide counsel on how to better their condition.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I am proud of UCM because it works to hard to help those in need. When all people enter the building they are met with respect and compassion. It is so disappointing to have to turn anyone away because of lack of funds.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would see that they had all the money they need to assist with the needy in our community.

Role:  Volunteer & As a volunteer I work with others to increase fundraising. .
