Review for River Of Hope Inc, Indio, CA, USA
I have been a regular visitor to Duroville ove the last 9 months. In that time, I have gotten to know many of the children and their families. The vision of River of Hope is the answer to what these people have been praying for. They need safe, clean, affordable housing. The people are living in deplorable conditions. The drinking water is not safe, the electricity is not safe. Many of them live in old single wide mobile homes that have rodents and coach roaches. At times the children are covered with bites on them from the roaches and one girl had a spider bite that could have killed her if I did not urge her parents to seek medical attention. They are hard working people that have little left to pay for food after the rent and living expenses. As bad as things are there for them, it is better than what they face if they had to return to Mexico. The violence and criminal activity including sex trafficking is so bad that it is dangerous for them to return. Many of the girls that I know are from 10-14 years old. They would not have a chance of survival there. Some of them were very young when they came here or were born here. They have dreams, to go to school and college, to become successful and help their families. This can be possible if the River of Hope can get the funding they need to fulfill the visions that they have for "Los Duros" or Duroville. If you knew the children and the families they will serve, your hearts would melt. If you saw the conditions they live in, your hearts would break. Your generosity could be life changing for these families that I have come to know and love. Jessica, Cecelia, Marisol, Consuelo, Miguel, Jonathan, Annaee, Diana, Effreil, Mercedes, Augustine, Ivan, Jose, Nelle, Cynthia, Jessica C., Maya, just to name a few. They need a River of Hope, for hope is all they have.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The River of Hope has plans to build low cost housing for the people of Duroville.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I have not been involved long enough to know what changes need to be made. The people of Duroville trust me and I value that trust. I don't want to raise any false hopes for the them. But I believe that Kenny Dickerson and the River of Hope has their best interest at heart. I will work to help protect the people of Duroville and support the River of Hope in any way I can.
