My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Canopy, Palo Alto,, CA, USA
I have volunteered with Canopy since 2017 and am impressed by its outreach to large swathes of different communities :such as Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and Palo Alto.
The staff are caring and dedicated and go to great lengths to encourage local people to notice trees in their neighborhoods with regular scheduled tree walks often led by professional arborists.
Canopy is also very active in organizing communities to plant trees in their own neighborhoods and in the Fall these are scheduled at the week ends often involving large and enthusiastic groups of neighbors and volunteers. Hundreds of trees have been planted this way.
I have visited many elementary class rooms with Natalie Brubaker where she engages students in looking at trees with new eyes through reading stories, asking searching questions, showing samples of tree parts and leading outdoor activities involving trees that Canopy has planted in other years on the school campus.
Her enthusiasm is contagious !
One of Canopy's most exciting programs is the Young Foresters program where High school students gain deep knowledge of trees and as well as practical skills in planting and caring for them. This will be invaluable training for their futures.
Canopy is up there with the best!
