I am an elementary teacher at a Title 1 school and our principal reserved seats for our entire first and second grade students to see the Houston Ballet for FREE. The entire event was very organized and when we arrived we were received with smiling faces. All the parents and the girls enjoyed the ballet very much. They were impressed with the dancing and the beautiful costumes. The boys were not shy in admitting that they enjoyed the ballet also. They on the other hand liked the dancing and how the male dancers were lifting the female dancers. This whole experience was up close and very memorable for everyone. As one boy said, "This was fun!" These are the types of experiences that inner city students lack, but need. Exposure to the performing arts should be the norm for all students.
