Review for Wedgwood Christian Services, Grand Rapids, MI, USA
The first time I walked thru the doors of Wedgewood as a scared 13-year-old girl, it was the seventh time I had been put into a residential setting. From age five to 13 I lived in both religious and non religious facilities. I had survived years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse: I neither believed nor trusted any of the staff members there. The first year I was belligerent, rude, angry, in return, they were patient, kind, and nonthreatening. Each member of the team lived in a way which represented the Christ in whom they believed, they didn't have to preach, each kind word, each warm hug spoke volumes. A year later while spending a week at Grace Bible Camp, I met Jesus Christ for myself, praying Him into my heart. The next three years I learned more about life, then I had my first thirteen. When I graduated from high school, I left the protective walls of Wedgwood equipped with the tools I needed to begin my life, on my own, in the real world. I am 65 years of age now, and yet not a day goes by that doesn't reflect some hint of those four years worth of teaching. I don't know where I would be today had I not met Jesus as my Savior, but I wouldn't be where I am now, and I will forever be thankful for Wedgwood and those who represent it.(The pictures are me at age 12, today, posing with Mr. and Mrs. Kos, houseparents, on the day of my high school graduation(age 17)
