"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill
Living in a bright life full of loves and cares from my parents, enjoying every moment I have, and having a good health condition, my life seems to be too perfect to believe on the darker side of this society. I had always known there are rich and poor people in this world but my thought had never gone further from the differences between social classes. I can call myself ignorance, but are we all unaware of some parts in life? Because of our unfamiliarities to world's numerous problems, it does not mean that we deserve any blame. It means we need to experience more in order to be more open minded. As a normal student, with my little knowledge and skills, I have nothing but my desire to learn more about the world, about the hardships other people are carrying. I chose to work at VinaCapital Foundation, a charity program that supports, both mentally and financially, to all poor children in Vietnam, who have heart disease, in order to share burdens with their parent and guardian. Just for a month working at VCF, I have learned more than what I have known for eighteen years. Different cases from different children brought different surprises to me, helping me to recognize my ignorance. A family of four members are living in a 10-meter-squared house, how can it possible? Total monthly incomes of a small family of three people are only 500,000 VND, how can they well spend it for their living expenses? Reading cases, I feel like I am the luckiest girl in this world who is living a life without any concern. Reality slapped hard on my face. Small house and low income, there are people living in a very tight budget and poor condition like those I have known. With all my ability, I tried my best to help those children by writing them emotional cases to help them having a helpful aid from donors. Without a chance volunteering at VCF, I think I would never learn and understand that life is such a challenging path for some people since I have no major challenge in life. The more I know about those poor children, the more I admire them. At very young age, they seem to suffer enough due to their family's tight budget but their health is their biggest concern. I wonder where they get all the strengths and courages to overcome every problem in life. Thanks to VCF, thanks to a month volunteering and working through different cases, I have a chance to open my mind, a chance to be more aware of this society, a chance to improve myself, and a chance to spread cares to people who are in needs.
