Review for Reading to Kids, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I started volunteering with Reading to Kids as part of a college group, but have been returning off and on since 2001. It's super flexible because you sign up for the months you are free, but every time you go you can see what an impact it makes with each of the kids, especially when you come back month after month and the kids know you are really there for them. It is amazing to make a positive difference in just a few hours once a month!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Watching kids open up from barely speaking the entire reading club to opening up and telling what is going on in their lives the second they see you.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give it more funding to be able to expand to other schools. It is having such a great impact that it's a shame it isn't being shared even more.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

making a difference in the community.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

amazing, welcoming, and supportive.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand to 100 schools.

Ways to make it better...

there were donuts in the morning, but bagels are good there!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the tough economy.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have seen all the money raised going directly into the program, and that everyone works hard to make it work, work together, and make a difference.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month
