Review for Art Share Los Angeles Inc, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My name is Evelyn Martinez and I have been involved with Art Share Los Angeles since my 10th grade in high school. I am now in my second year in college and I am still involved with this organization because it became my second home. Art Share has been a place that has offered me guidance and a safe space to grow as an artist. Art Share helped me defeat my community's stereotype and gave me and my siblings a better path to follow. When I found out about Art Share I was afraid to go and see what it was about because I was only 15 and I was extremely shy. Once I became comfortable within their program and with the staff I told everyone I knew about Art Share because I wanted everyone to have the same experience I did. Apart from them helping me stay focused in school they allowed and gave me the opportunity to grow as an individual. If it wasn't for Art Share I would have never been exposed to art and art's healing powers. I wouldn't be the person I am now.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have taken almost every class that Art Share has offered and each art class I took helped me discover my self and my passions. They've also helped me financially through the LGT scholarship and emotionally through the support the staff has given me.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would do more out reach to schools and the communities around the area.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Their exposure to the arts and connections with community artists that have given students the opportunity to fully research their artwork as a career option.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Art Share's staff is loving, respectful, inspiring, helpful, generous, creative, talented... They have become family.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide more art classes. Buy school supplies. Buy a new van to be able to provide transportation to all students. They would be able to offer more scholarships. Provide tutoring. Hire more staff members in order to make sure all student's needs are met..

Ways to make it better...

If they had the funding to not be able to deny membership or tools to all students.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Art Share's biggest challenge is fundings. The students have needs that Art Share would love to fulfill but they can't because there isn't enough money. One example is transportation. Student's can't attend class if they don't have a safe ride back home.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The programs and their mission is exactly what low income communities and that at risk youth need in order to defeat the cycle families in those communities fall in. Art Share can do so much more all they need is funding.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
