My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Military Heritage Foundation dba Army Heritage Foundation, Carlisle, PA, USA
I teach fifth grade in Carlisle. One of the subjects I teach is American History. Since its inception, I have taken advantage of the wonderful facility the Army Heritage Education Center has developed. I have seen the facility expand through the years and provide more and more hands on experiences to my students. When we visit, history comes to life! Students interact with re-enactors from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, French and Indian War, and Vietnam War time periods. They climb through WWI trenches, watch a blacksmith make nails and spoons, learn how to march in Civil War style, explore a Revolutionary War redoubt, and much, much more! The special weekends they have in the spring and fall are unbelievable - I not only encourage my students to go, but take my own family as well. In addition, my older sons utilized the research center for their National History Day projects - volunteers guided them to sources and even spoke to them about their own experiences. This nonprofit foundation is such a great asset to our community and to the education of our children. It helps to make my students want to learn more and visit again and again. It also shows them their place in history and the value/impact of their decisions on our future. History is alive here in Carlisle - I hope the Army Heritage Center stays forever!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
...my classroom with my students. They love visiting the Army Heritage Center. Also, my two older sons did research there for their National History Day competition and both went to the state level and one to the National level.
